Kitty: master class (part 1)

As promised, I'm starting to post a master class on sewing Kitty. Today the first 2 lessons: cutting and assembling the head.

To sew Kitty, I used white velor with the shortest pile and pink polycotton. It was my first experience of "communication" with velour, and I was delighted, in vain I avoided it for so long. The fabric is very pleasant to the touch, practically does not crumble, it is sewn with a bang and what is very important (especially for beginner needleworkers) forgives many flaws of not very even stitching and assembly due to the knitted base and fleecy texture.

About polycotton separate conversation. For these purposes, you can use any cotton suitable color. But I preferred polycotton for several reasons. Firstly, this fabric does not crumble at all and you can leave minimal allowances for seams and the edge can not be processed. Polycotton does not stretch, almost does not wrinkle and keeps its shape perfectly (and if it is pre-washed, then working with it is even more pleasant). Because I sewed a toy for a little girl, the water-repellent characteristics of this material played a role. Well, for many, its biggest plus is its rather low cost with excellent performance and a very pleasant appearance.

Photos are enlarged for detailed viewing and are intended for printing on an A4 sheet.
Continued (lesson5-lesson8) in the next post. Kitty: master class (part 2)

Pattern Kitty

Cut out Kitty from paper. Cut through the eyes and nose.
We impose on the fabric and outline along the contour. Cut out one piece. Then we also outline the second one, only on this detail we circle the eyes and nose with a simple pencil. Cut out.
Cut out two eyes from black fabric. We sew them with black threads over the details drawn with a pencil. Then we cut out the nose from the yellow fabric and sew it with yellow threads also over the one drawn.
We embroider the antennae (you can just stitch).
Now we take two parts of Kitty and put them “face to face” (so that the muzzle is inside). We sew along the edge, leaving a piece between the ears not sewn.
Turn inside out with a pencil or stick.
We stuff a toy.
Sew up the hole between the ears.
You can sew a bow on Kitty or sew a dress.

More patterns

This is not a copy of a popular toy, but its own view of the toy from Tatyana Brazhenkova. Those who have known Tatyana for a long time know for sure that she creates her own patterns from the picture and, at the same time, her patterns are always easy to work with, very accurate and the toys turn out better than the original.
Here is Kissy - a completely different look at the pattern, everything is extremely simple, and at the same time I even wanted to add a toy to the company of blue-nosed friends - a very similar author's handwriting. I even agreed on this issue with Tatyana, but today I decided to show you the pattern in its own form.

You know, your favorite toys can also be sewn in the style of Teddy bears. Here is an example of a popular toy sewn in this way. All parts are assembled using hinges, so your Kitti will be able to take any poses and even turn her head left and right. It is best to sew a toy from fleece or white velsoft. It is better to use plastic eyes (you can find them in many fabric stores or in the online store). The nose can be sewn from a piece of yellow fabric. Sew the dress from a bright soft material, make a clasp on three small buttons on the back. Please note that the pattern of the dress is given one - for the front one-piece, for the back, consisting of two parts. On the dress, make an applique in the form big flower.

Everyone's favorite funny little cat character is now available as a pattern. For work you need fleece white color and some pink fleece for the dress and bow. Sew all the details, decorate the head: glue or sew on the eyes and stripes of the mustache. Don't forget about the small nose, which can be cut out of the yellow material. Sew the bow, turn it inside out, pull it off in the center and decorate with a brooch. Sew the dress along the side lines, put it on the finished toy and fasten it with small buttons at the back (you can buy it in fabric stores). Secure the arms and legs with a rope hinge if the toy is small or with hinged discs of a suitable diameter.
The toy is ready. Now do an experiment and sew the same one from white fur.

... and many ideas

Kitty seems to be one of the most popular characters, including in the toy world.

And there are already a great many patterns. But I, nevertheless, decided to make a pattern myself and sew Kitty with movable arms, legs and head. Based on this picture:

And here's the pattern I came up with. I made the first cats without shoes, I finished the patterns of shoes later.

In order to sew Kitty, you need to prepare the following materials:

White fleece or velor for all parts of the cat itself.

Fabric for the dress (at your discretion), lining if necessary.

Felt for shoes.

Plastic from a stationery folder for soles (inserts in legs and shoes).

Sintepukh for stuffing.

Accessories: ribbons, pendants, bows, flowers.

Nose mold (or yellow felt)

Oval black buttons for the eyes (or black felt).

1. Now start cutting. From white fabric, cut out all the details of Kitty. From the fabric for the dress - one piece of the dress with a fold, the clasp will be at the back. You can use the “double dress” sewing technique to finish the edges of the dress, this does not necessarily mean that it can be worn turned inside out, so choose the most suitable companion fabric for this. You can also process the edges of the dress by turning or tucking them. It all depends on the type of fabric. It’s easier for me to sew a double dress than to fold small armholes and necklines

Cut out the details of the shoes from the felt. And plastic insoles for shoes. They need to be cut a millimeter smaller in a circle along the sole pattern. Also cut out two smaller pieces of plastic according to the pattern of the foot.

2. Next, sew the darts on the details of the head and torso. Sew the ears, turn them inside out, tack them to the head and sew the head, leaving a hole at the bottom. Sew arms, tail, torso. When sewing the legs, leave an eversion hole just above the heel, so that later it is more convenient to place the plastic blank of the feet inside. Stitch your feet out of fabric. Turn everything out.

For the neck joint, select a wooden spool of the appropriate size. As you can see, they are different in thickness and height. To wrap the spool in the color of the main fabric, use a rectangle of white felt.

3. Then fill all the details with sintepuh. Before stuffing the legs, place the plastic blanks in the legs, lightly smearing them with Moment-Crystal glue. Sew up the openings on the arms and legs with a blind stitch.

Glue the coil over with felt overlap.

4. Decorate Kitty's face. The nose can be molded from a hardening mass and glued, the eyes also, or cut them out of felt, glue, sew along the contour over the edge and varnish. Embroider the mustache with black thick thread. Sew or glue the bow. Now in stores you can buy ready-made. In the absence of such, you can do it yourself.

5. Now attach the head to the body. To do this, collect the neck openings of the head and torso on a strong thread, insert one end of the coil into the body, tighten the thread harder, tie two knots and hide the ends of the threads in the body. Then insert the other end of the coil into the head and then everything is the same as with the body. Then, with a large needle, piercing the torso and head from the outside, distribute the stuffing inside, around the ends of the coil, so that it holds tight there.

Kitty can also be assembled on classic hinges - disks and cotter pins. But then it will be sewn together and assembled in a different order. There is a lot of information and tutorials on the Internet about this.

7. The Kitty itself is ready. Move on to clothes and shoes. Glue the plastic insole to the sole. Next, sew the top of the shoe and the sole with an overlock stitch. Sew the back section of the shoe and go over the top with the same overcast seam.

8. Shoes can be decorated, for example, with textile roses. I, at the beginning, prepared red roses, and blue and pink ribbon bows. Since I was not sure about the final version of the image. As a result, I chose blue bow, ribbon and roses.

9. You can sew the dress as you like or as I did. Lay the piece of dress and the piece of companion fabric (lining fabric) face to face. It is not necessary to cut out a part from another fabric, it is enough to cut a rectangle on which the part of the dress itself will fit.

Sew the part along the contour, leaving a hole in the back sections.

10. Turn the dress inside out through one of the holes. Then be sure to iron it.

11. Sew along the edge of the dress, again without affecting the back sections. Sew the shoulders with a hidden seam.

If you sew a dress with sleeves, then this option for processing the armhole will not work. You need to use a facing or hem, and sew the sleeves, possibly with your hands.

12. Try on the dress. You need to mark the places where the tapes will be attached. Insert the edges of the ribbons into the holes in the cuts, tuck the edges along the entire cut inward, secure gently with a cobweb (or glue). Take the ribbons longer than you measured, it is better to cut off the excess later.

13. Now delay along the edge and the cuts on the back along with the linens. Make air loops and sew on suitable buttons so that there is room for the tail.

14. Trying again. The whole village is as it should be, the tail passes between the buttons. Everything is fine.

I sewed this kitty in a hurry, time was running out, so I chose the option without sleeves and with a fastener in the entire back. If there is nowhere to hurry, then I make a fastener on the floor of the back, and lower in the dress I make a hole for the tail, processing it with a facing. But, more on that later.

15. Tie the ribbon in a neat bow in front and, if desired, secure it with glue or thread.

Well... hello, Kitty! That is, HelloKitty!

My first kitties were without shoes, as I already wrote.

This one, the dress had sleeves, I made the bow myself, attached it to a pin and it was removable. The dress is adorned with a sequined snowflake that I cut out of nylon tape, then glued.

I made the nose and eyes out of buttons. The black buttons are oval, they just had to be filed to the right size. But the yellow one was a big round one. To begin with, I had to bite it with pliers, outline the desired oval. Then process the future spout with emery for a long time and hard.

And, just the same version of the ponytail through the dress:

This is a variant of a cat with felt eyes and a nose, not varnished. The bow is also removable on a pin, I used a children's hair clip. The dress is again with sleeves, decorated with glued rhinestones.

Here's a New Year's Kitty with a DIY bow featuring Kitty's picture. I have already put on a few noses and use them. Eyes made of oval and filed buttons. Dress with sleeves, decorated with herringbone appliqué with rhinestones.

All of these cats had ponytail holes in their dresses. And here shoes have already appeared, decorated with snowflake sequins.

Here everything is also a molded nose and button eyes (which ended on this kisul). The dress already has a clasp all over the back, decorated it with a metal pendant "Kitty". And the organza sleeves were sewn by hand. The bow - again a former children's hairpin, quite matched the color.

Create, experiment, try something new!

You can sew a bow on Kitty or sew a dress.

This may well be the first toy made by you!

Here is a satisfied and happy owner of a new friend.

So let's get started. We drew the pattern ourselves. There are a lot of Hello Kitty pictures on the Internet. We circled the head, torso and paws. I slightly modified the torso in the neck area - I made the same shape as textile dolls. Thus, the head is held firmly, does not stagger and is much more convenient to sew on. We also lengthened the handles so that it is more convenient to sew on, and so that they do not bulge. This is the pattern we got. We are happy to share with everyone.

You can print this pattern, you can circle it from a computer screen.

We cut out the details and lay them out on a white fleece. We circle all the details, cut off the fleece so that it does not move when sewing.

We start with the head. We sew the details of the head by machine or by hand, leaving a hole in the neck area))))). I left about 2 cm, because my daughter turned and stuffed.

Here it is, the head - stitched and turned inside out.

Now we proudly give the child a head (cat), a filler, a stick, and we are engaged in paws and torso under the contented panting of a little needlewoman.

Now paws and everything else.

The legs are sewn and cut out. The body is cut out until we sew. We sew the handles (or paws)))) in such a way that there are holes under the armpits to fill our handles. Like this:

Now on the body we outline the places where the arms and legs will be and sew it, leaving the outlined not sewn. For the legs, I got an unsewn whole bottom. Through it, then I twisted and stuffed the torso.

We stuff the arms and legs, but not tightly, unlike the head and torso. So that they are mobile and do not puff. We sew to the still empty torso - handles.

Then we stuff the body tightly and sew the legs with a hidden seam.

The turn of a very densely stuffed head has come))))

We put the head on the neck, as tightly as possible and sew in a circle with a hidden seam.

Well, what you can wear, decorate and love is ready))).

We sew a dress. There is room for fantasy. We decided our kitty will be in lavender colors, lavender is now blooming and smells everywhere. We finished everything when it was already dark, so our angel could not be photographed in the lavender in the garden. But tomorrow morning - first thing))).

We cut the dress. A rectangle made of cotton, where the height is the length of our dress, the width is the volume of Hello Kitty's waist plus fluffiness)))). We didn’t want to make a straight sun-flare, so we added half the waist volume))). You can add the whole volume. We decorated the bottom with lace and stitched the side seam.

And putting a skirt on an angel, we evenly distribute the clamps. I do it straight on the torso, stabbing with pins. When everything is evenly gathered, we sew a sundress to the body with a hidden seam.

We close the seam with narrow lace and tie a flirty bow on the chest)))).

Wings. What is an angel without them. We decided to use Tilda wings. Here is the pattern.

We made double-sided wings. Made from lavender checked cotton and white fleece. Sewed them together. My daughter so wanted to sew on a typewriter, and in a zigzag. She did it more than once. Here are the wings we got. In my opinion, a good primitive)))) I then walked around the edges again and made the lines shown by the dotted line on the pattern.

Now it remains to sew the wings. We sewed on another wooden button and found a purple bell. Claudia (daughter) said - there will be a bell! They sewed it on too. Here's what happened.

Now we outline the eyes and nose, and embroider. I embroidered with black and yellow iris.

Oh, and mustache!)))

Bow. I crocheted a cotton bow. It can be sewn, molded, tied. That is to show all your talents.)))

Well, that's it. A few more photos for inspiration and good luck!

All children love when they have something unusual, something that others do not have. So, for example, the original pillow. It will be only in one copy and only with him. Of course, you can buy such a pillow, but no one guarantees that it is the only one, so I suggest sewing it yourself. First, let's decide what we need, that is, what materials and tools we need. So, we need to purchase fleece fabric different colors, I took pink (fuchsia), lilac, white, black, yellow, light pink; filler, threads, the same colors as fleece.
Draw a picture on 38*55 paper. We make a template, how the pillow will look like. For the drawing, I took the heroine of the cartoon "Kitty" Here's what I got.

I transferred all the details to a blank sheet of paper and cut it out. It turned out patterns, according to which it is very convenient to cut out of fabric.

First, we cut a 38 * 55 rectangle of pink fleece, we need 2 parts, since the pillow has 2 sides.

From white fleece we cut the cat itself and daisies.

From black we cut eyes and antennae.

From light pink fleece we will cut out a rectangle measuring 6 * 8 - from it we will make a bow on the chest of the pussy.

The details of the nose, the cores for daisies will be yellow.

Only details from lilac fleece remain. They will be a sundress and sandals.

All the details have been cut out. Now we start assembling the pillow, namely, we begin to assemble our kitten. To begin with, we sew the white base of the kitten and place the daisies to the left of it.

Now we sew on yellow details - the cores of daisies and the cat's nose.

It's time to create our pussy face. To do this, sew on the nose and antennae. We try to place the antennae symmetrically relative to each other so that the pussy is even and neat.

It remains to dress up the pussy. We sew a sundress and sandals.

Well, the front side of the pillow is ready. Now we collect the pillow itself. We impose the second same rectangle on the resulting part and sew along the edge. Leave a small incision on the side unsewn. Through it, you will need to turn the pillow on the front side.

We turn out the detail.

Now we will make a voluminous bow on the chest, or rather on a kitty sundress. To do this, take a light pink rectangle that we cut out in advance. Fold it in half and sew along the edges.

As seen in the picture. A section is left unsewn at the bottom so that it can be turned right side out. After we turn our bow inside out. It should be in the middle to make a line on a weak thread tension. This is done so that you can pull off the middle of the bow.

Pull the thread. But at the same time, secure it on one side with knots, that is, tie them. After tightening, tie on the other side as well.

We manually sew the resulting bow to the kitty's sundress. We fill the pillow with filler and sew it up.

In the same way as we made a bow, we make a bow bigger size. For him, we take only a rectangle 10 * 12. Sew the resulting bow on the pussy ear.

The pillow is ready! Now you can sew such a pillow for your little baby.
