Everything for survival in extreme conditions. Survival kit for trips to distant bodies of water

This is also a way to gain some knowledge of yourself and your capabilities. Yourself as you are, without the bells and whistles of urban culture.
And yet, you will still need a certain minimum set of survival items.
A lot of different things have been written about survival kits. Therefore, in order not to repeat myself and so that the article brings real benefit to someone who suddenly finds himself in a difficult situation, I will limit myself to my own opinion on this issue.
So, the most general requirements for such a set are as follows.

  1. The set should take up as little space as possible and weigh as little as a kilogram (preferably a gram).

  2. It should include those things that you REALLY cannot do without. Experienced survivalists assemble their kits themselves; beginners can buy a ready-made one and then modify it based on their inclinations and situation. Some people claim that they can get by with just a knife. Well, maybe that's true. You can check this statement for yourself, that’s what the whole game exists for :)

  3. The kit should have DIY potential. In other words, from the items of the set, various useful devices can be made by combination.

These are the items that I consider the “heart” of the set, the part that you can’t do without.

1. A knife, or better yet, a multitool. I can’t recommend specific brands, everything is individual. The main criterion is functionality and reliability. It is imperative that the multitool tools are firmly fixed in the working position (with latches or other means). There have been cases when a cheap Chinese multitool without latches folded during use and seriously injured the operator’s fingers.

2. Lighter. It is not recommended to include a cheap transparent lighter in the kit due to its catastrophic unreliability. The lighter must be silicon, bright orange or red. If you drop a green or black lighter in the grass, you risk losing it forever.

You can read more about it here.

3. LED flashlight, powered by one battery. It is better if the flashlight body is made of anodized aluminum and is waterproof. It is not advisable to use a flashlight with a built-in battery or a rare battery. The best flashlight is one with AA or AAA type elements. In case of emergency, batteries of the same type will also be suitable for such flashlights.

4. Batteries for the flashlight. If you plan to store it for a long time without using it, wrap one of the battery poles with stretch film and insert it into the flashlight. This will keep the battery charged longer.

5. Flash card with useful information. What is considered useful information in this case is up to you to decide. I would recommend, first of all, to scan your civil documents (passport, international passport, driver's license, children's birth certificate, marriage certificate, TIN, etc.) in advance, and write the scans in the form of pictures onto a flash drive. It is advisable that the flash drive be waterproof. It happened that people were left without a passport in a foreign country, and only carefully prepared scans of documents helped them quickly return to their homeland.
6. Needle and thread of different colors. Buttons. Safety pins.
7. A simple pencil and a pack of bright office stickers. Well, everything is clear here.
8. Instant glue. The advantage of this glue is its high gluing speed and versatility. The downside is the relatively low water resistance. However, it all depends on the brand.

9. Condom. In addition to the classic one, it has another application: waterproof. At worst, if the circumstances turn out to be completely unfavorable, you can put your flash drive in it before hiding it :)

10. Sanitary napkins, as well as a special antibacterial liquid with an alcohol content of at least 60%.

11. A piece of steel wire 20-30 cm long, rolled into an oval ring. Using a wire multitool you can make many useful things, from fish hooks to... I came up with 5 options. Think more.
12. Cord made of nylon fiber 3 m long. (Replace a torn lace on a boot, tie up a load for carrying and even make a bow string...)
13. A block for sharpening a knife or a small piece of fine sandpaper.
14. Hand-held rocket launcher of the “Hunter Signal” type. Such a flare gun can not only send a signal, but also scare away a wild animal, an aggressive dog, etc. Never point the flare gun at a person!

That's basically it. Decide for yourself what to pack it all in. The main thing is that the packaging is moisture-proof and has the potential for modernization.

Your individual set can be supplemented with the following useful gadgets and devices.

1. Navigator. In the event of a Big Pe, telephone communications along with the Internet may be cut off, and navigation satellites will plow the icy expanses of space above our heads for a long time...
2. Nail 150 mm long. With such a nail, heated over a fire, you can melt plastic to make holes (you shouldn’t heat up multitool tools if you don’t want to ruin them), you can scratch arrows on plaster indicating the direction, etc.
3. Compass.
4. A small roll of stationery tape.
5. A piece of paper with useful addresses (pharmacies, hospitals in your area, domestic embassies and consulates abroad, country and city codes).
6. 0.3 liter bottle of clean still water.
7. A couple of Snickers.
8. String saw for wood.
9. Magnifying glass.
10. Catalytic heating pad and gasoline for it.
11. Adjustable wrench.
12. Jackhammer :)
The list goes on and on.

One piece of advice.
Don't turn your kit into a warehouse of unnecessary junk, in the hope that maybe some of it will come in handy someday. The main thing is skills and abilities, versatility and light weight.

If you find yourself in an extreme situation, especially in the wild, you should always rely on yourself, your strength and endurance, as well as the help of an emergency survival kit. There is another name for it - or NAZ. This set consists of items that will help you start a fire, get food, improve your well-being, and simply hold out for a few days until help arrives. Survival kits come in different configurations. There are special military, rescue or marine NAZs, and there are camping and tourist kits. In any store that sells equipment for hunting, fishing and tourism, you can purchase a standard survival kit. You can make it yourself, taking into account individual wishes for the kit, as well as the duration and conditions of the trip. The main thing is to always take NAZ with you when going into nature, even if the trip lasts three days. It should always be at hand, and it’s even better if there are several of them - you can put one in the car, one in a backpack, put several in your pockets, and hang the smallest one around your neck or put it in your shoes (for this, the NAZ is placed in a small capsule) .

Military survival kit is usually standard for all branches of the military, the differences concern some specific items, for example, for pilots, sailors, astronauts. For example, the NAZ of pilots and crews of aircraft and aircraft includes the following contents:

  1. Communications and distress signaling

This is a radio station with a battery, an electric torch, a whistle, a signal mirror, signal cartridges, water dye, and a radio beacon.

  1. Supply of food and water

Canned meat contents, refined sugar, salt, caramel, water.

  1. Medical kit

Bandage, iodine, adhesive plaster, caffeine tablets, mosquito repellent, pantocid, chloramphenicol, sulfamedizin, promedol, morphine, frying pan packaging.

  1. Equipment for camp.

Pistol cartridges, compass, hacksaw, wire saw, windproof or waterproof matches, dry fuel, can opener, plastic flask, fishing tackle, filter glasses. Another configuration option may contain a machete knife, a woolen hat, and a supply of ammunition for hunting.

Depending on the terrain over which flights are made, an emergency survival kit may include:

  • Skis for snowy terrain.
  • Two 1.5 liter canisters of water for waterless areas.
  • If flights are made over the sea - a boat or raft with a package of signal water dye, 10 pcs. briquettes for water desalination.

The weight of the NAZ can be from 10 to 18 kg, it depends on the configuration.

In addition, the official safety equipment of aircraft crews may include auxiliary equipment - a halyard, a safety rope, a belt. NAZ paratroopers always, among other things, always include a sheathed sharp hunting knife with a comfortable handle.

Forest survival kit

Camping survival kit

The set of necessary items for tourists and “survivalists” should be light so that you don’t get tired of carrying them with you, waterproof so that they do not deteriorate in the rain or when crossing a body of water, and also durable for any mechanical influences. A forest survival kit should include:

  1. Means for lighting a fire: dry fuel, matches, kerosene, lighter, flint. It is better to put several lighters, a flint, and hunting matches. A magnifying glass will help you make a fire without matches using a directed beam of sunlight.
  2. Knife. You can’t do without this tool in the forest. If you don’t have an ax or saw, you can use it to cut branches for a fire, trim bark, open canned food, and get food. It must be durable, made of hardened steel.
  3. A small whetstone to sharpen a knife.
  4. Instant glue. Not every brand can withstand moisture, but it takes up very little space and sometimes saves the situation.
  5. A multitool is a necessary thing for a “survivalist” in the forest. It does not replace a full-fledged knife, but contains a lot of necessary tools that will be useful for obtaining water and food, building a hut, lighting a fire, and repairing clothes and shoes. These are various mini-screwdrivers, files, scissors, hooks, a corkscrew, etc.
  6. Means for sending a distress signal: a small flare gun, two bright orange rubber balls, a mirror (this will be needed to send light signals).
  7. Flashlight with a set of batteries, candle. It is better to use an LED flashlight in a metal case.
  8. Minimum utensils: pot, bowl. The aluminum pot is lightweight and heats up quickly. It is better to have two dishes - one for food, the second for water.
  9. The minimum set of medications: bandage, gauze, iodine, plaster, pain reliever, antipyretic, tourniquet, hydrogen peroxide, medicine for heart pain, stomach pain, medications for heartburn and nausea. In addition, you may always need scissors, furatsilin, ethyl alcohol and burn remedy. We must not forget about antibacterial agents, because you can always get hurt and get blood poisoning. If there is an allergy to anything, you need to add antihistamines, as well as individual medications for existing diseases.
  10. A simple black lead pencil with a set of bright stickers.
  11. Potassium permanganate for water filtration or a carbon filter.

When planning a trip to places where poisonous snakes or insects are found, it is necessary to equip your first aid kit with an antidote. This will be unnecessary if there are no snakes where you are going. The main rule of a survival kit is maximum practicality with minimum size.

For survival in the forest in winter, the emergency supply is slightly different in its configuration. Lighters are generally useless in winter. They are being replaced by a chair with a flint; it is advisable that there are a couple of them in the set. Be sure to take a spare set of warm clothes with you, including a hat and shoes. The kit should include a thick plastic film measuring two by three meters, or better yet, even larger. In extreme cases, it will help to build a hut and protect from wind or snow. It is better to replace the rope, which can break due to frost, with wire, which can be used to secure the housing. A small sharp shovel or ax is an irreplaceable thing in the winter forest.

How to make a survival kit

There are several rules for assembling a survival kit yourself: firstly, if any item can only perform one function, you can safely leave it at home. Excess weight is absolutely not necessary for either a tourist or a “survivalist.” The same goes for things that you would hate to lose, spoil, etc. When assembling your own survival kit, you should remember that first of all you need things that will come in handy:

  • To build a home and heat it;
  • Obtaining food and water;
  • Maintaining hygiene;
  • First aid.

To create a survival kit with your own hands, the first thing you need to do is take care of a suitable container. It should be small, easy to carry, waterproof and durable. You can use a tea or coffee tin box, or a camera case. The second option is more convenient because it has a clasp, a carrying strap, attachment to the belt, and its material protects the contents from water getting inside.

Before making a set, everything is free-flowing and capable of deforming when wet, the contents of the container must be divided into small bags with a plastic zipper. Next comes complete with:

  • One of the bags contains medications: streptocide, activated carbon, individual medications, “Zvezdochka” balm, and other medications listed above.
  • Small compass (you don't need to pack it).
  • Cotton wool, bandage.
  • Fishing set: several hooks, a skein of fishing line, wire, sinker.
  • Set of needles and thread, pins. They can be placed inside the body of a ballpoint pen and plugged with a stopper.
  • Alcohol, hydrogen peroxide
  • Small mirror, magnifying glass.
  • Multitool knife, stationery.
  • Lace
  • Hacksaw. The blade can be separated from the handle by inserting it inside. When unfolded, the hacksaw is inserted into the handle and secured with a bolt.
  • Batteries
  • Kindling materials: flint, tinder, several lighters, paraffin candle.

Emergency survival kit for a hike

A rescue capsule is a mini-kit for survival in extreme conditions. It is placed in a special sealed container, which can be worn around the neck or other accessible place. Such a capsule will help a person to escape if he has become separated from the group. You can hold out with it for several days until a way out of the extreme situation is found or until help arrives. Just in case, it is better to have several microcapsules located in different places, this will ensure survival under almost any circumstances. The rescue capsule is usually made the size of a medical syringe or a little more, its composition contains:

  • Medicines: sumamed, ketarol, nitroglycerin, aquatabs.
  • A sewing needle wrapped in thread.
  • Blade from a small knife or scalpel.
  • A pair of hunting matches
  • Fishing set: 9 pcs. sinkers, hooks, jigs.
  • A tube or bag of chili pepper, potassium permanganate, and salt.
  • Two banknotes of 500 rubles each.
  • Several rubber bands for banknotes.

The outside of the rescue capsule is wrapped with several meters of surgical thread, electrical tape or adhesive tape. A five-meter long fishing line is wound on top.

Incredible facts

There are many situations that can lead to the need to fight for your life, and any of them can happen to any of us. It's not always an extreme skier who went off course or a runner who injured a joint in the middle of the desert. You may have accidentally fallen behind your group of tourists, or your car may have run out of fuel on a deserted stretch of winter road. The question isn't whether you'll find yourself alone in a life-threatening situation, the question is what you'll have on hand to get you out.

Having a well-stocked emergency kit in your vehicle is an essential necessity when you embark on a road trip. If you are going on a hike, be sure to stock up on everything you need and put the tools in your backpack. The old saying is true that it is better to take something with you that may not be useful than not to take it and then painfully regret it. Below are the 10 most essential tools that every traveler should have with them.

10. Compass and map

You decided that it would be nice to spend your holiday this year in some unusual place, so you chose an adventure tour to the Australian outback. Everything was great until your group moved on without you after lunch break. In this case, your best assistants will be a compass and a map. A person with even the most modest navigation skills will definitely be able to find his way back to the camp.

Compasses work by using a magnetized pointer, interacting with the earth's magnetic field to calculate direction. If you have a compass and a map of the area, you can figure out how to get to your desired location. If you're left with just a compass and no map, at least you'll be heading in the right direction. Now that GPS navigators have appeared, compasses have faded into the background. Although GPS will certainly do its job in this situation and reveal the exact location of a given point, it requires a charged battery, which you are unlikely to have if you find yourself in such a situation. In this case, a compass that relies only on the Earth's magnetic field is a better alternative.

9. Arsonist

When it comes to survival, fire provides a lot - warmth in cold weather, warmth for cooking and purifying water, and it is also a potential signal of salvation. It also gives you a sense of security and light in the dark, which helps you stay alert.

In addition to a first aid kit, any camper or car camper should have a small “fire starter kit.” Pack your entire first aid kit in a waterproof box, and add a few lighters, small magnifying lenses, flint, and weather-resistant matches. Another good tip is to buy a set of sparklers, they work well when combined with wet leaves to light a fire. Use a magnifying glass to "collect" the sun's rays and start a fire, running the flint over the stone several times to create sparks. On your hikes you can practice and learn how to make fire with your kit, it's fun, and one day it might even save your life.

8. First aid kit

You accidentally slipped off the trail while hiking and got seriously injured. The cut on your arm is quite deep and you feel like you have sprained your ankle. It's times like these that make you glad you have a well-stocked first aid kit with you. Hikers, bikers, skiers, hunters, climbers and ordinary tourists should all carry a first aid kit. It is also important to have another copy in your car in case of emergencies.

It is also important to know what to pack in your first aid kit. Start with the most necessary medications and solutions - antibacterial ointments, alcohol, peroxide, painkillers, antacids, aspirin and anti-histamine. Your kit must include tweezers, gauze, bandages and eye wash. If you are diabetic or have an allergy to something, then these types of drugs should be first on your list. Also take burn remedies with you in case of fire. It would be a good idea to purchase a special handbook that describes first aid for any possible accident or accident.

7. Mirror

A mirror is also one of those gadgets that can help you survive. If you are able to find food, water and shelter in extreme conditions, this is good, however, you still need to escape to return home. To do this you will need a signal mirror.

Any old small mirror will do as a signal mirror, however, many specialist companies make mirrors especially suitable for this purpose. Some of these mirrors can float on the surface of the water, and some are designed in such a way that they can be easily attached to a backpack. The size of the mirror in this case does not matter - even the glow of a small mirror (5 cm by 7 cm) can be seen at a distance of 160 km. The signal mirror works best on clear days with direct sunlight, but can also be used on cloudy days. You can reflect the light of a flashlight and even bright moonlight in order to escape.

6. Signal lights

If you find yourself in an extreme situation, then you need to do two things - stay alive and find salvation. If you are in a similar situation as Tom Hanks in the famous movie, and you cannot signal to save yourself, then you will probably also get used to talking to a volleyball. Even though smoke signals are a legitimate form of emergency signaling, people don't often go out of their way to purchase them. A signal mirror is a good option, but if you want to have an unmistakable signal that no plane, helicopter or ship will miss, then you can't do without a flash.

There are many different warning lights to choose from. Some of them require a pistol and a shot into the sky to use. Other pocket-sized options emit a red flame that you can hold above your head. Many emergency kits that come with cars contain these, so check this kit if you crash your car in a desert area. The same goes for ships and planes, so you should find some debris to build a life-saving flare. The highest class in this category is a laser flash - a beam that is visible both day and night at a distance of up to 48 kilometers, it costs about $250, but your safety costs more.

5. Survival knife

In 1982, Sylvester Stallone took movie theaters by storm with his hero John Rimbaud, a former Green Beret and survivalist. While watching the movie First Blood, teenagers watched as a tough guy sewed up his arm with a needle and thread while holding a giant knife. The knife, which Rimbaud “lit up” back in 1982, remains an important attribute of outdoor enthusiasts, as well as hunters and fishermen, to this day.

Most survival knives look similar. They have serrated edged blades and hollow handles. Included with such a knife, as a rule, are matches, fish hooks, a compass, and sometimes even thread and a needle, like Rimbaud. When it comes time to purchase such a knife, you get exactly what you pay for. A cheap knife will be a boring and fragile blade. More expensive versions allow you to create a custom package at your discretion. Waterproof matches and a small piece of silicon will probably come in handy, as will a few water purification tablets. Fishhooks are great for emergency fishing, but thread and needle are really only used in movies. It is better to replace them with several painkiller tablets.

4. Multifunctional device

The name speaks for itself. The Swiss Army Knife is a favorite of Boy Scouts around the world, with its tiny saw, fire starter and toothpick. While a small pocket knife may still come in handy, it won't work as a modern multi-tool. There are many types of such devices, but the Leatherman is probably the one that has gained the most wide acceptance. It gained popularity back in the 1980s, however, since then, both it and multifunctional devices from other companies have gone through a serious development path.

A standard device of this type consists of two halves connected in the center. Depending on what you choose, you will have several options at your disposal. They typically weigh 141-283 grams, and most contain screwdrivers, saws, bottle openers, and can openers. Some other models come with scissors, serrated knives and wrenches. However, when it comes to survival, choose a device that has more knives, since you are unlikely to be able to fillet fish with a wrench.

3. Snake-proof kit

Outdoor play and fun can take a turn for the worse when you hear a rattlesnake approaching you. Although snakes are afraid of people and will do everything possible to avoid meeting you, they are a reality that you must be fully prepared to face. Snake bites are no fun and depending on the type of snake, a bite can cause everything from nausea and seizures to death. Therefore, due to the potential danger, when going into the forest for a walk or hike, you should always have a snake-proof kit on hand.

Unfortunately, most kits do not contain what you need to help you neutralize a poisonous snake bite. Kits that contain scalpels are not a good choice because this item will not provide proper first aid for a snake bite. The more dangerous this item becomes if a person does not know how to use it correctly. Therefore, look for kits that include devices for sucking out poison. Whether you buy a ready-made kit or build your own, be sure to include anti-inflammatory pills, pain relievers, and an emergency whistle. If you are bitten, your body is extremely weakened, so a whistle may be your only option to call for help.

2. Water filters

If you're lost in the desert, one thing you'll need above all else is water. People simply cannot live without it. A person can live without food for several weeks, but without water he can last a couple of days at most. For this reason, you should carry at least one water purification method with you on any hike.

Water filters are the best option and come in a variety of shapes, sizes and prices. Some are no larger than a straw drinking straw. Other models screw onto your bottle and can filter up to 378 liters of water without having to replace the cartridge. It's also worth taking a few water purification tablets with you. Such tablets usually contain iodine or chlorine, they dissolve in water and make it suitable for drinking. This water may not taste great, but you won't die. Think ahead and place filters and tablets in different places, if you suddenly lose your backpack, it is best to store them in a special pocket of a device that can be hung on your waist.

1. Knife - machete

Imagine being lost in the Amazon forest. You have no food and no way to move other than using your own legs. All you have with you is the clothes you're wearing and your trusty machete. It sounds like next to nothing, but if you have some basic survival skills and a good wits, a machete may be all you need.

Extreme survival experts will tell you that a machete is the most versatile tool that will help you. It can be used to shorten the road to civilization, it will help you cut bamboo leaves and palm leaves in order to build a roof over your head. If you are on an island or in the jungle, as long as you have a machete, you will be able to drink coconut milk, you can also use it to make firewood for a fire or to protect yourself from predators. Either way, a machete will be a very valuable tool, so make sure you have one in your backpack if you're going camping.

In this article I would like to talk about how to assemble your own survivalist kit. We will consider only the essentials, without which you should never go on a long hike. Also, such a set will be useful even if you are not planning long outings in nature - situations are different, no matter where you go - into the forest, into the mountains or going rafting, going without a survival kit is extremely risky.

Beginners always have questions about what to take with them on a hike and what not; many take with them a lot of extra and completely unnecessary things, but if the hike is on foot, you need to carry it all on yourself. Lately, lightweight tourism has been gaining popularity, the whole point of which is to take with you as little things as possible; lightweight travelers lighten their backpacks in every possible way, use modern universal equipment, the lightness of which lies in the uniqueness of the materials from which this equipment is made.

Therefore, the purpose of our article is to show what you really need to take with you on the road, and what is better to leave at home.

Survival kit - only the essentials

So, the essentials.

1. Means for starting a fire - matches, lighter, flint, dry fuel

This is what you will use to start a fire. It is better to use hunting matches rather than ordinary ones, and it is even better to have a flint with you, with the help of which you will always be able to start a fire in any weather. About, .

2. Knife - there’s nothing to do without it on a hike

With the help of a knife, you will do many useful things - open canned food, you can use it to sharpen something somewhere, cut up a dead animal, and you can’t do without it when preparing dinner. , it’s up to you to decide, the main thing is that it is comfortable, sharp enough and reliable. Of course, it would be nice to have a good hunting knife made of good steel - Damascus or damask steel, but from experience I will say that A knife with a hardness of 50 HRC on the hardness scale is perfect. In principle, now you can buy an excellent knife within 1000 rubles, or at worst, take at least an ordinary kitchen knife.

3. Kitchen utensils

You can’t do without it on a hike. This is a mug, bowl and spoons. An aluminum pot and an aluminum mug are perfect.

The volume of the pot depends on the number of people going on a hike. It is advisable to have two pots - one for cooking food, the second for boiling water. An aluminum pot is good because it doesn’t weigh as much and the water boils faster in it. There are kettles with a copper bottom, in which food cooks even faster. Many survivalists get by with just one army bowler hat.

4. Camping first aid kit

You cannot go on a hike without medications. You never know what can happen. You may get injured, catch a cold, or be attacked by a wild animal. Therefore, you need to pack a first aid kit. You can read more about how to assemble a first aid kit.

In principle, this set of medications is more than sufficient; you can supplement it with medications that you need and need.

5. Spare clothes

If you are going on a long hike (more than two days), then you need to take care of a second set of clothes. Be sure to have a hat, a warm jacket, pants and other warm clothes. Because it is colder at night than during the day. Also take 2-3 pairs of thin socks and 1-2 pairs of warm ones.
