Mestral worked for seven years before he managed to patent his invention. Swiss patent No. 2 717 437 "Velvet fabric and method of its production" was obtained by him in 1955. Georges de Mestral gave the name to his invention - Velcro (velvet hook). The Swiss company founded by him in 1952 was registered under the same name.
