On May 13, 2018, the traditional annual charity fair "White Flower" was held in the stauropegial convent of the Marfo-Mariinsky Convent of Mercy, which was attended by thousands of Muscovites and guests of the capital.

Divine Liturgy before the start of the holiday was performed by Bishop Panteleimon of Orekhovo-Zuevsky, Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service, and Bishop Anthony of Akhtuba and Enotaevsky.

At the end of the service, Vladyka Panteleimon addressed the parishioners with a sermon and, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus', presented awards to the benefactors of the Martha and Mary Convent. Abbess Elisaveta (Pozdnyakova), the abbess of the monastery, took part in the award ceremony.

Among others, the first director of the Developmental Center for Children with Cerebral Palsy "Elizabethinsky Garden" Anna Prishchenko, the chief physician of the Marfo-Mariinsky Medical Center "Mercy" Ksenia Kovalyonok, and the director of the Elizabethan Gymnasium Natalya Tsareva were awarded the patriarchal diploma, among others.

During the day, we managed to collect 2,749,510 rubles. All funds raised at the White Flower Charity Fair will be donated to the Petitioner Group.

They see how the Orthodox faith combines life according to the Gospel commandments not only prayerfully, but also actively.”

The “Mercy” help service has been holding the “White Flower” holiday annually since 2011. Traditionally, at the entrance to the monastery, guests were met by girls with white flowers, which were distributed for donations. At the charity fair, one could find souvenirs and crafts for every taste; creative workshops were devoted to the art of calligraphy, acrylic painting of ceramics and jewelry, wreath weaving. The guests also went on excursions around Zamoskvorechye and the Marfo-Mariinsky Convent.

All day long live music sounded in the monastery performed by the brass ensemble of soloists of the Central Military Orchestra of the Ministry of Defense of Russia and the piano quartet named after. On this day, live music will sound in the garden of the monastery in the open air, children and adults will be able to participate in creative workshops and games, as well as purchase handicrafts at the charity fair.

A charity fair will run all day, where you can buy beads, earrings and brooches, toys and handmade interior items, as well as paintings. And of course, according to the age-old tradition, thousands of white flowers will be distributed in the monastery for donations.

This year, all funds raised at the "White Flower" will be directed to the work of the Rehabilitation Center for children with cerebral palsy - a joint project of the "Mercy" service and the Marfo-Mariinsky Convent. Here they help children with movement disorders from Moscow and other regions. Thanks to the work of specialists, it is possible to achieve great success: "lying" children learn to sit, "sitting" - to stand and even move around. The White Flower holiday has become one of the students' favorites. PSTGU students sell white flowers made by their own hands at the celebration. And every year they choose various techniques works: small flowers on sticks with candy inside, roses from corrugated paper, fabric flower brooches, etc.


Volunteers of St. Tikhon's University also help in organizing the holiday: they distribute food, stand behind the counter, and sell fresh flowers. In addition, students of the faculty of church arts of PSTGU put up for sale several of their works this year.


“You feel amazing! As if you were in that distant XX century, a representative of the aristocracy, came to a charity fair to help people, ”- Ekaterina Tsvetkova, a 2nd year student of the Faculty of History, shared her impressions.


In turn, Elena Krivosheina, a 1st year student of the magistracy at the Faculty of History, admitted that she had wanted to participate in the action for several years, but something always interfered and distracted her. “Now that I finally got out, I don’t regret it at all. This is a very joyful, bright action,” she stressed.
