Waiting for the opening summer season extreme types of recreation, we decided to talk about watches for people who are very close to all this. Connoisseur's Choice - Analog-digital chronograph watch with stopwatch from Swiss' Highlander collection Military Hanowa.

Men's Swiss Watches Swiss Military Hanowa 06-5175.15.007 Men's Swiss watch Swiss Military Hanowa 06-4174.04.007.07 The case with a diameter of 45 mm can be made of titanium, steel, steel with partial or full PVD coating. Of course, the price depends directly on the material. The most expensive Highlander model is made of titanium - 32,300 rubles.

Men's Swiss watch Swiss Military Hanowa 06-4174.04.007 Men's Swiss watch Swiss Military Hanowa 06-4174.13.007 A real sports watch for lovers of extreme travel. They have a barometer - a device for determining atmospheric pressure. In turn, the altimeter will help determine the height above sea level by measuring air pressure. Not to mention the alarm clock, calendar and second time zone in 24-hour time format.

Other important and indispensable functions on a hike include a compass and a thermometer. Everyone knows: without them you can’t go anywhere! Why take everything separately when it’s all already “connected” in a wristwatch. The charge indication function (EOL) will tell you when it is time to replace the battery, and luminescent hands and markers will help you “recognize” the time even in the dark.

On the back cover there is an engraving with the name of the brand and its logo. The crown is also decorated with a logo.

Watches on a titanium bracelet are equipped with a butterfly clasp, while models with a rubber strap have a classic clasp. Both are convenient. It's more a matter of taste and habit.

Excellent men's watch for the strong, active and brave! Thanks to their thoughtful design, these models will look great in the city. Of course, for a casual style.
Water resistance of 50 meters is, of course, not enough for scuba diving. But this is more of a watch for extreme sports on land!

Leonhard Schweiger successfully brought the once small Austrian brand Jaques Lemans to the international level. He is currently involved in sales for Swiss Military Hanowa. In the watch ring, he has to fight with two monsters of the Swatch Group: Tissot and Certina. Chronoscope magazine asked him about the competitive advantages of Swiss Military Hanowa over other mid-priced brands.

Leonard Schweiger

The Swiss Military Hanowa brand, despite good sales in Russia, still needs some introduction. Can you tell us a few key facts about the company?

The brand appeared about 40 years ago, and about 4 years ago it was bought by the Swiss Watch Group. This group is involved in different watch brands. Her CEO and the owner acquired Swiss Military Hanowa in 2009 without much hesitation. After all, he was buying a brand that is very strong and active in Switzerland, South Korea, Japan, Brazil and Argentina.

What does the brand name mean?

If you put the first syllables of the words Hans Noll Watches together, you get the name Hanowa. Hans Noll is the founder of the company, he is still alive and working in it, being involved in the Swiss market at the age of 74. His main intention was to make reliable sports watches in the main price range of 200 to 600 Swiss francs. But the watch had to be connected to something very, very reliable - the Swiss army. The phrase Swiss Army was already taken, so they chose another one - Swiss Military.

Is there a big difference between the Swiss Military Hanowa and Hanowa brands?

The difference between the two is that we wanted to add an even lower priced line of Swiss watches to our portfolio of brands. We were thinking about buying a new brand or trying to create a new name. However, in the end, we came to the conclusion that everyone knows the Hanowa brand - in those markets where Swiss Military Hanowa products are sold, and we thought - why not split this brand and create products under the Hanowa brand, the price of which starts from 90 Swiss francs and ends at 149 francs. It is still a watch made in Switzerland, with a sapphire crystal, but it is completely different from the Swiss Military, because the Swiss Military Hanowa is a mid-priced Swiss watch, a sports watch, as well as an elegant and classic watch, while Hanowa is a more youthful, fashionable brand.

It is interesting to know this: there are various brands that use the phrase Swiss Military in their name. What is the difference between Swiss Military Hanowa and other companies with the phrase Swiss Military in their name? Could you talk about this?

You are absolutely right, there are many similar brands - Victorinox, Swiss Army, Swiss Military, Swiss Military Hanowa... The fact is that all these companies wanted to have a name that evokes reliability and is associated with Switzerland. Second important point is that all these companies benefited from the use of the Swiss cross on the dial, case, crown or wherever. The clear difference is that all these brands want to operate in different markets, while Swiss Military Hanowa's intention is to operate in the mid-price segment, keeping prices down without setting them too high or making their products too expensive. Take the new Highlander for example - it's a high-quality, high-tech tool, but at the same time, it's not without beauty. This also applies to the new Opportunity model, in which we tried to combine design, quality, price, and reliability. And another important point, our main difference from, for example, Victorinox is the price. Prices for Swiss Military start from 7,000 and end at about 30,000 rubles. And the price for Victorinox starts from 20,000 rubles.

As you say, we should not compare Swiss Military Hanowa with other Swiss Military watch companies. However, who is your competition?

This is definitely not Victorinox or Swiss Army. Swiss Military by Chrono is not represented in Russia, so it cannot be called a competitor. In other markets - for example, in South America- well, there is some competition with Swiss Military by Chrono. But I would say that our main competitors in Russia are Tissot and Certina.

What mechanisms do you use?

In quartz we mainly work with ISA, Ronda. In chronographs we use the Ronda 5030 movement, in watches with three hands – ISA. And in automatic watches - ETA.

Are you making any changes to the mechanisms? I don't mean adding complexity, I'm talking about putting a logo on the rotor and things like that.

Not yet. But the new Highlander uses a caliber that was developed by ISA specifically for our group of companies, which means that we will be the only ones who will use this movement exclusively for the next five years. This mechanism is comparable to the T-Touch mechanism; Although it does not have a touch screen function, it works by pressing the winding crown. It has the functions of a compass, thermometer, altimeter, a time indicator in a second time zone, and backlight. Plus a bezel that rotates in both directions, all in a much nicer case than the T-Touch. I say this not because I represent Swiss Military, but because it really is so.

So the most logical comparison is between the Highlander and the Tissot T-Touch?

Yes, of course it should be compared to the T-Touch. Both watches are made in Switzerland, both models have almost the same functions. The only difference is that our touch screen is not a touch screen because we want our watch to work. One of the main problems with the T-Touch is that as soon as you get dust on the window, or moisture gets in there, or something like that, the T-Touch stops working, while the winding crown always works.

How do you solve the problem...

Don't talk about problems, we don't have any problems (laughs).

Swiss Military Hanowa Highlander on the wrist of Leonard Schweiger

What I meant was this: when the watch is on the wrist, the body is warm, and this temperature is transferred to the watch...

The sensor device does not touch the body.

What is the price of these watches in Russia?

From 24,000 rubles for a steel model with a rubber strap, up to 30,000 rubles for a titanium model.

Who worked on their design?

The man responsible for the design of all Swiss Military watches is Mr. Christian Francherts. He lives in Hong Kong, as well as Switzerland and the States, so he is always aware of what is happening in the market. It is also very important to say that he is the person who can really... in general, he lives for the brand. Let's take a look at the Sergeant watch, for example, a new model just released by Swiss Military. Perhaps some, looking at this watch, will say: “So what? It’s a design we’ve already seen from other brands.” But that's not true. It may look similar to something that was already on the market, but when you look closely at the watch, put it on your wrist, consider the materials, the case, the shape of the case, you very, very quickly realize that this is a Swiss Military.

Do you use ceramics?

Of course, we have the Swiss Eleganza model. It has been on sale in Russia since mid-December. We plan to expand the line of ceramic watches in 2012-2013. We also decided to pay more attention to women's watches.

Swiss Military Hanowa – Swiss Eleganza

What can you say about other materials?

I can say that the time of the titan has passed. Ten years ago, many countries were very fond of titanium. In Scandinavian countries, men only wore titanium watches. Do you know why? Titanium - quickly takes on body temperature, so when on the wrist they do not get cold, while stainless steel always remains cold. Try to go outside wearing my watch - although it is a beautiful watch - but try to go outside in it at -8 degrees and touch it after 10 minutes - it is icy. This is why many companies have used titanium, not just because it is a lightweight metal. After all, in most cases, a man wants to feel the watch on his hand, but due to the temperature outside, many chose comfort. Now this is somehow not very important for people.

What about gold?

This material is not that important to us. Of course, we have gold plated models, but real gold is not our material.

I read that your brand appeared in 1961. That is, this year is his anniversary - 50 years.

We will celebrate our anniversary next year.

Will you create any special models?

Yes, we will present special models at the exhibition.

Which collection or model is the best selling?

In Russia these are Navalus, Navigator, Revenge. Judging by the number of requests, the Highlander model is far ahead of the rest of the models, followed by the Revenge, Navalus, and also the Freelander. The Navigator Pro model sells very well on board aircraft. Of the new products, we should probably mention the Predator and Predator Chrono. Oceanic and X-Treme are gaining more and more popularity among the new series - at the international level.

Can you identify any characteristics of buyers in different countries? Differences between buyers?

Buyers in some markets prefer bracelets, while in others they prefer straps. Some, like Russia, prefer large watches, large diameter, while the Asian markets, as you know, prefer smaller watches. In Spain, buyers much prefer rubber and PU straps rather than leather straps because of the heat and outside temperature. In Switzerland they prefer elegant and simple models Swiss Military, while in Austria buyers love to purchase chronographs and multifunction series. Tastes in different countries are different. Some markets prefer the sporty Swiss Military lines, while others prefer more elegant and calm watches - for example, Japan prefers watches with three hands, chronographs and watches with big amount functions. That's why Russia was one of the first and main markets where we introduced the Highlander model.

What watches do ordinary people wear in Switzerland? I mean ordinary people - not the heads of banks and watch companies...

Ordinary people, average people, wear very simple watches. Switzerland is rich not because of the top managers working in banks. Switzerland rich country thanks to average, ordinary people. Because it is these ordinary people who save money, they are the ones who have money in banks, they are the ones who do not spend very much money. They live a very conservative and simple life. And this is the basis of Switzerland. And these people wear very simple watches. In the vast majority of cases - I would say in 90% of cases - these are Swiss watches, but they are simple, with three hands, a date - nothing special.
This is such deliberate simplicity and modesty. They also wear, but simple models.

Tell us about yourself. What did you do before joining Swiss Military Hanowa?

I have worked for various watch companies and groups of companies. Basically - and this is worth mentioning - I was involved in the positioning and repositioning of various brands in international markets. I was the person who brought the brand Jacques Lemans to the international level. It was a strong Austrian brand, but it was only strong in the Austrian market. When I took over the export department in 2005, within just three years our products were sold in over 100 countries, on board over 120 international airlines. We have also built our presence on Russian market. I then moved to the Swiss Watch Group, where I was responsible for various brands. Now I am working on the Swiss brand Roamer, together with my team we have carried out a very successful positioning of it at the international level, including in Russia. And also, I have been the sales director at Swiss Military Hanowa for a year now.

SWISS MILITARY HANOWA is a regular participant in the BASELWORLD watch fair. The company name and its brand SWISS MILITARY HANOWA are very well known throughout the world for their design and the outstanding quality of watch movements.

Among the many popular Swiss watch manufacturers, the Hanowa Swiss Military brand occupies a special place. The history of the brand begins in 1963, when Hans Knoll, former manager Sales department of a famous watch brand, decides to found his own company. The name Hanowa itself is formed by a combination of the name of the founder Hans Noll and the English word Watch. Initially, the company produced watches with unusual designs, made in the form of pendants, clips or pendants. This was an extraordinary decision in the fashion world, and many called Hanowa watches fantastic.
However, by the beginning of the 90s, the company radically revised its policy by registering the Swiss Military Hanowa trademark. Swiss Military Hanowa watches are aimed at people actively involved in sports. The name Swiss Military recalls the Swiss army, which is a guarantee of the protection of the Catholic Vatican and the throne of the Pope for several centuries. At first, the watches were produced to order for the Swiss army, but unexpectedly their popularity increased greatly. Today, Swiss Military Hanowa is a well-known and recognizable brand, representing aggressive and functional sports watches, but not without aesthetics and elegance.

The quality and exceptional design of Swiss Military Hanowa watches is confirmed by the fact that the number of fans of the brand is constantly growing, for whom the brand released 15 new collections in 2007. The company's key slogan, “Always on Target,” symbolizes the exclusivity of the watch collection. While remaining multifunctional and highly reliable, Swiss Military Hanowa watches are not devoid of aesthetics. Each model attracts with its individuality. Despite the fact that the watches were originally intended for men, today the brand offers a wide range and women's collections. Indeed, in the modern world, no one doubts the fact that women are not inferior to men either in the sports arena or in business.

All models of Swiss Military Hanowa watches are equipped with quartz or automatic movements produced in the best watch factories in Switzerland. The back cover of the watch is made of sapphire glass, which is scratch-resistant and has one of the highest coefficients on the Mohs scale - 9. By the way, a diamond on this scale has a coefficient of 10. The transparent back cover allows you to see the work of the watch mechanism, its heart. The front glass is also made of sapphire crystal. High quality 316L steel is used to make the case. The leading IP ion sputtering technology is used to coat watches with gold or black plating.

Swiss Military Hanowa watches come as standard with luminescent hands and hour markers. The use of Superluminova material allows you to measure time even in pitch darkness. This coating, completely free of radioactive elements, is not subject to aging and provides a glow for several hours. Originally developed for use in the military industry, today this coating is used in almost all Swiss Military Hanowa watches.
Watch bracelets are made of stainless steel, ceramic or titanium and are equipped with a special safety clip that allows you to easily adjust the length of the bracelet. Instead of a bracelet, a strap made of genuine leather, in a special way processed. Such skin becomes insensitive to the aquatic environment. Like any high-tech watch, Swiss Military Hanowa models are waterproof. A special screw-on cap makes them waterproof to a depth of 200 meters.

Swiss Military Hanowa offers a number of truly unique collections that deserve close attention. A special place among them is occupied by the Highlander collection, designed for climbers. The highly feature-rich Highlander watch is equipped with all the necessary sensors. In addition to the standard dial, they contain an altimeter, digital compass, barometer and thermometer. Made from steel or titanium with a 45mm case diameter and covered with sapphire crystal, the watch is suitable for any conditions and landscapes.
An altimeter with a height limit of up to 9000 meters is a distinctive feature of the Highlander. It can store height measurement information. Quartz movement with synchronized movement allows one analogue and two digital displays to present the entire necessary information. Additional features of the Highlander watch include a chronograph and an alarm function. The credo of these watches, designed for long-distance expeditions, is precision and reliability. Travelers can be one hundred percent confident in the watches of the Highlander collection.
The Highlander is not the only multifunctional Swiss Military Hanowa watch. The Legend Challenge collection watches, made of stainless steel with rose gold plating, have a tachometric scale, a time summation function, a chronograph and a 30-minute counter. A special hesalite glass protects the dial, and the battery ensures operation of the mechanism for 44 months. The Challenger Chronograph and Navigator Pro Alarm Chronograph collections are equipped with similar functions.

Swiss Military Hanowa's women's collections are just as impressive and solid as their men's. The only difference is that the design of these models is more feminine. Dial diameter women's watches smaller, and the case can use inserts made of mother-of-pearl or Swarovski stones. The dial can be made in various colors, from white to sky blue.

Swiss Military Hanowa watches will highlight the individuality and strong character of the owner. They will not let you down in a difficult situation and will become a reliable assistant on a trip or adventure, embodying the spirit of Switzerland itself.
