How to sew a Christmas hat. How to sew a New Year's Santa Claus hat or Santa's hat

is coming New Year. Preparations are now in full swing. Today we will sew a New Year's Santa Claus hat or Santa Claus hat with our own hands. In fact, these hats differ somewhat in cut, but for simplicity we will assume that both Santa Claus and his foreign brother Santa wear the same hats.

For this we need:

0.7 sq.m. red fabric, any non-woven white material (synthetic winterizer, felt fabric) or fur for a lapel (a piece measuring 20x70 cm), a tailor's ruler, threads, a needle, a sewing machine.

We will sew a cap for size 56-57. If you need a New Year's cap bigger size, make the side of the pattern larger (size 58, for example 29 cm, size 60 - 30 cm, etc.)

I have a square of red fabric about 0.7 square meters, which I cut out from the front of an old dress. I didn't cut off the sides. Useful for sewing.

Make a cutout. Pattern making is easier!

Let's iron our fabric first. Fold in half face to face, put the long side of the pattern to the fold. And we circle with a small piece or a bar of soap with 1 cm seam allowances. Simple models can be cut along the ruler, drawing the desired dimensions directly on the fabric.

We attach a strip of synthetic winterizer, felt or fur to the lower cut of the cap with the face (relevant only for fur) to the inside of the cap and sweep at a distance of 1 cm from the edge.

We sew on a sewing machine, pulling in the top thread red and the bottom thread white.

So, we have sewn fur for the lapel to the cap.

Then turn off the fur and go through the seam with a hot iron. Don't burn!

Then fold the cap along the fold line.

And we sew along the side seam, not reaching the angle of 3 cm. This is necessary for sewing in the brush. Overcast the edges with an overlocker or zigzag with a machine.

We fold a brush from a piece of synthetic winterizer or fur and insert it inside the cap.

We sew a brush from the inside of the cap, making a pinch on it.

Let's turn it out. The brush worked.

It is not difficult to make a Santa Claus hat on your own, and the result will be noticeably better than those products that can be purchased in supermarkets. Traditionally, such a headdress is sewn from felt and faux fur, but you can also make a simplified version of it out of paper. Plus, you can make a miniature Santa hat for your headband!

Steps

Sewing a fabric hat

Divide the circumference of your head in half. Take a measuring tape and wrap it around your head at the level where the cap should be. Remove the tape from yourself and write down your head measurement, then divide it in half.

    • For example, if the circumference of the head was 56 cm, then as a result of division you will get 28 cm.
    • If you don't have a measuring tape, wrap a length of string around your head and then measure it with a ruler.
  1. Based on the calculated measurement, draw an isosceles triangle on a piece of paper. The base of the triangle should be half the circumference of your head. The height of the triangle can be whatever you want.

Round the base of the triangle in an arc. Tie a piece of twine to the pencil. Attach the free end of the twine to the top of the triangle, and then attach a pencil to its lower left corner. Stretch the twine and draw an arc with a pencil from the left corner of the triangle to the right.

    • You can also use a marker instead of a pencil. If you have a compass of the right size, you can use that too.
    • The arc must start at one corner of the triangle and end at the other. You should end up with a triangle with a rounded base.
    • The arc at the base can also be drawn by hand. It will not be as smooth and accurate, but it will also fit.
  2. Cut out the resulting pattern, and then circle it on a piece of fabric folded in half. Fold the red fabric in half wrong side out. Attach the pattern on top so that one of the sides of the triangle is adjacent to the fold. Trace the pattern with tailor's chalk or marker.

    • Fabrics such as faux fur, velvet, fleece, flannel and felt may work well for the product.
    • Make sure you trace the bottom edge of the triangle in an arc, not a straight line.
  3. Cut out the fabric piece using 1 cm allowances. Since one side of the triangle is already adjacent to the fold, you only need to add allowances on the other side of it and along the lower arcuate edge. This is an important step. If it is not done, then the cap will turn out to be too small.

Sew the sides of the hat with a straight stitch with a 1 cm allowance. Start sewing from the bottom edge up to the tip of the cap. Try to match the threads as closely as possible to the color of the fabric. If needed, use tailor's pins to temporarily secure the sides of the hat, but remember to remove them when you're done sewing.

Cut out a strip of white faux fur for the cap trim. Cut a strip of white fluffy fabric that is 2 cm longer than the circumference of your head. In width, this strip should be twice the intended width of the trim plus 1 cm of seam allowance. For example, if you want the trim to be 5 cm wide, cut it 11 cm wide (5 cm x 2 + 1 cm).

    • Most often, white faux fur is used for the trim, but you can also take white felt or fleece.
    • If you are not sewing, but gluing the cap, cut a strip of trim exactly the width that it should be. For example, if you need a 5 cm wide trim, cut a 5 cm wide strip.
  4. Sew the ends of the fur strip with a straight stitch with a 1 cm allowance. Fold the strip in half crosswise with the wrong side facing out. Align its short sides with each other, and then lay a straight line along them with an allowance of 1 cm. Use white threads for this purpose.

    • Again, this can be done by hand or on a sewing machine. If you use sewing machine, do not forget to make bartacks at the beginning and at the end of the line.
    • Due to the short length of the short sides of the strip, there is no need to fix the fabric with tailor's pins. But, if you do decide to use them, be sure to remove the pins when you're done sewing.
  5. Put the trim on the bottom edge of the cap and sew. Turn the cap right side out, but leave the fur inside out. Slip the trim over the bottom edge of the cap, then sew these pieces along the underside with a 1 cm seam allowance. Use white or red thread and straight stitch.

Turn the fur trim down, then tuck the raw cut inside the cap and sew. Leave the hat face out. Turn down the sewn fur strip so that its front side becomes visible. Next, fold the trim in half lengthwise, tucking its raw cut inside the cap. Sew this section to the seam allowances of the previous seam. Also, the lapel can be simply glued on the inside.

    • Skip this step if you previously glued the trim on top of the cap.
    • Fur can be sewn by hand or on a sewing machine using a straight line. If you are using a sewing machine, remember to back-tack at the beginning and end of your stitching.
  6. Sew the pom-pom to the end of the hat. Purchase a large pom-pom at an art supply store. Attach it to the tip of the hat with hot glue or fabric glue. It can also be sewn to the cap by hand.

    • If you can't find a ready-made pom-pom, you can use a white cotton ball instead.
  7. To make the cap look more elegant, make a fur pom-pom for it. Trace the upside down glass on the back of the white fur to make a circle, then cut it out. Sew a line of running stitches around the circumference of this circle. Pull the thread to collect the fur into a ball. Tie the thread in a knot, and then glue the fur pompom to the cap.

    • You need to sew or glue either a ready-made or a homemade pompom. You don't have to do both.

    Making a paper cap

    1. Draw a semicircle with a diameter of 50 cm on a sheet of red paper. Attach a ruler to the bottom edge of the sheet. Tie a piece of twine to the pencil, then attach the free end of the twine to the 25 cm mark on the edge of the sheet, and then put the pencil to the zero mark of the ruler. Keep the string taut and draw an arc on the paper with a pencil from the zero mark on the ruler to the 50 cm mark.

      • You can make a smaller cap from a semicircle with a diameter of 45 cm.
    2. Cut out the semicircle with scissors. If there are pencil marks on the paper, erase them with an eraser. If you'd like to make a fancier felt hat, use the semicircle you made from paper as a pattern to cut out another semicircle from red felt.

    3. Twist the semicircle into a cone, overlapping its straight radial sides. The exact overlap will depend on the size of the cap you need. The more overlap, the smaller the cap will be.

      • Try on the cap to check its size. Make it a little narrower or wider if necessary.
    4. Fasten the cone of the cap with a stapler or glue. When you are satisfied with the size of the cone, remove it from your head. Use a stapler to secure its aligned sides. You will need to install one paperclip at the bottom of the cap and another one at the top of the cap. To make the hat look neater, it can also be held together with glue or a strip of double-sided tape.

      • You can use PVA, stationery glue, or a glue stick, but you will need to temporarily chop off the edges of the cone until the glue dries. This process can take from 15–20 minutes to several hours.
    5. Glue cotton balls along the bottom edge of the cone. For this purpose, PVA glue is suitable for you, but you can also use hot glue. Glue the cotton balls close together so that there are no gaps between them.

      • Do not use white pom-poms for this purpose, as they will not create the desired effect.
      • If you can't find white cotton balls, replace them with a cut-out strip of white felt.
    6. Glue a white cotton ball or pom pom to the tip of the cap. Apply a large dab of hot glue or PVA glue to the tip of the cap. And then press a white cotton ball or pompom to the glue. Wait for the glue to dry before putting the hat back on.

      • Hot glue sets in minimal time. PVA glue will take several hours to dry.

Making a mini cap for the headband

      1. Draw a half circle on a piece of red felt and cut it out. The semicircle should be twice as wide as the intended height of the cap. It is best if its diameter is 15–20 cm. This will make it possible to make a cap 7.5–10 cm high.

        • Alternatively, you can use a bowl or plate to draw a full circle. The circle should be cut out and then cut in half.
        • To make the mini cap more elegant, use red felt with sparkles to make it!
      2. Twist the semicircle into a cone, overlapping its straight radial sides. The size of the overlap does not really matter, the main thing is that you get a cone. In any case, this hat will be too small to wear on your head in a normal way, so you will fasten it to the headband!

        • If you're using glitter felt, make sure the cone is folded up with the shiny side facing out.
      3. Glue the cone with hot glue. When you're happy with the shape of the cone, unscrew the straight edge a little and apply a bead of hot glue along it. Quickly press this edge back and hold in this position until the glue hardens. It takes only a few minutes.

        • You can also use PVA glue or textile glue, but then you will need to chip the cone with pins until the glue dries. Textile glue will dry in 15–20 minutes, while PVA will take several hours to dry.
      4. Trace the outlines of the cone on the red felt, and then cut out the resulting circle. Attach the cone to a sheet of felt of the same red color. Circle its base with a marker, and then cut out the resulting circle. From it you will make the bottom of the cap, to which you can attach the rim.

        • Cut out the circle from inside the drawn outlines, otherwise it will be too big.
      5. Make two slits in the circle for attaching to the rim. First, measure the width of the rim. Then make a corresponding vertical cut on the left side of the circle about 1.5 cm from the edge. Next, make the same cut on the right at a distance of 1.5 cm from the edge.

        • The presence of slots will allow you to later insert the headband inside and adjust the position of the cap on the headband. This is better than just sticking a cap on the headband.

Attributes for the New Year are used to create a special mood. Children and adults love to dress up for the holiday.

If you want to make a costume with your own hands, a master class on how to sew a cap will come in handy new year style for any chosen outfit.

Christmas hat tools

For any needlework, you will need tools and raw materials. If sewing is new, it is better to use simple patterns and schemes for creating an unusual cap.

Tools for creating a festive headdress:

  • a piece of colored cardboard or fabric - the material that is at hand is selected so as not to spend money on the purchase of additional elements;
  • scissors;
  • glue or threads - the fastener depends on the chosen base;
  • sequins, buttons, pieces of fur and ribbons - any decorative elements.

The New Year's cap is created from a paper or soft base. The cardboard head accessory is a disposable accessory that can be thrown away immediately after the holiday.

It will not be possible to store such a cap.

A soft product made of fabric or felt is stored for several years, but it takes more time and additional materials. A do-it-yourself fabric cap is sewn according to a master class: ready-made measurements and patterns will help you sew a proportional, high-quality product.

Cardboard cap

This accessory is perfect for new year party. To do this, cut out a semicircle. To calculate the circumference, the circumference is measured with a ruler - this will be the length in a circle.

The height of the cap is chosen freely, but not more than 50 cm. After that, the cardboard of the chosen color is glued and decorated.

For decoration, New Year's "rain", beads, sequins or ribbons are used.

A bow is glued to the top of the cap or a pompom is sewn on.

Basic pattern

For a soft New Year's cap, you need a pattern or template, according to which even a beginner can make a New Year's hat. The dimensions of the template depend on the circumference of the head. For a child, the pattern needs to be reduced so that the hat does not fall off the head.

To create a pattern, plain paper is used. It has a triangle on it. Conventionally, three sides are signed: the lower left corner is designated as A, the opposite lower right corner is signed as B, and the top of the figure is designated as C.

IN complex patterns the top is divided into two parts, but you can do without it. The letters will help you understand which edges of the cut fabric need to be sewn together.

The length of each part for an adult is average. The bottom is chosen at least 55-60 cm: the average head circumference of an adult, if necessary, is adjusted with the help of decorative elements that are sewn at the end. The height is chosen no more than 40 cm. The pattern is cut out, after which it can be used to create two identical parts.

fabric requirement

Cut parts need to be fastened. To do this, you need simple threads and a needle. Use sewing machine not necessary for such a simple job. To sew different new hats, one pattern is used, but different materials.

Will you try to make the same hat?

YesNo

It is better to choose a dense fabric for a festive accessory with a minimum amount of stretchy materials - when worn, the hat will not stretch, and its ends will not gather into ugly folds. If a product is sewn from felt, the minimum allowance is taken - the material is dense and does not need to shrink.

A pompom or a piece of fox or hare fur does not need a pattern. They are cut according to the shape of the part of the base to which they will be sewn. Details are cut out with a seam allowance - you cannot cut the fabric back to back on the pattern, or the seam is initially taken into account in the pattern itself. Considering the main and simple rules, the beginner will get a good New Year's hat.

sewing process

First, two main parts are sewn. The side seams are sewn, after which the product must be ironed. Depending on the material used, it is necessary to apply an overlock or additionally hem the seams so that they do not stick out.

After that, the top is connected, but its corner is bent inside the cap. This will make the right base for the pom-pom. The pompom itself is sewn with a regular thread, but it fixes well to the base of the product.

The finishing touch for the New Year's cap is the bottom of the fur. For this, pieces of fur are sheathed in an even strip: two identical parts are connected on the front side and neatly sewn together. The product turns out. The bottom of the base is hemmed - the finished edge can be decorated with a simple ribbon or a sewn fur roller.

Additional decorations for the cap are not needed. The felt product is decorated with pieces of fabric, buttons or snowflakes. Any finishing material is suitable for decorating a homemade hat for the New Year.

Christmas decorations at home and cooking festive costumes This is a fun process for all family members.

A hand-sewn cap will become a unique attribute that you can be proud of.

Christmas hat Santa Claus - an indispensable attribute winter holidays! It is not difficult to sew it with your own hands and in just half an hour a wonderful hat with fluffy fur trim will be ready!

New Year's hat of Santa Claus: choose the material and take measurements

Santa's hat requires white and red fabric. We used red fleece and white faux fur. Fleece is very handy for fancy dressing: it's inexpensive and won't fray, and it has some stretch for a good fit. Velvet or thin corduroy is another great choice, but then you will need to work the edges of the allowances with a zigzag or overlock.

Instead of faux fur, you can use the same type of fabric as for the red part. To determine the required amount of fabric, you will need to take only one measurement - the volume of the head at its widest point. Also decide on the length - in our photos you see a hat 35 cm long.

To save money, you can sew a hat from three wedges, and then you will need a piece of fabric 1/3 of the circumference of the head plus 3 cm (with a fabric width of 150 cm and a maximum hat length of 50 cm). If you want a hat that is longer or the width of the fabric is smaller, you need a cut of ½ of the circumference of the head plus 3 cm. You will also need a rectangle of white fabric or fur 8 cm high and a length equal to the circumference of the head plus 10 cm.

So, let's sew a New Year's hat of Santa Claus!

Building a pattern

Decide on the number of wedges for the red part of the cap. It is easier to sew a hat from two triangular pieces, but if you buy a piece of new fabric and do not intend to use the leftover, you can sew a hat from three or even four wedges (but then the maximum length of 4x wedges with a fabric width of 150 cm can only be 35 cm).

Divide measure taken head circumference by the number of wedges and add 1 cm for a loose fit. The result obtained is the base of the triangular part of the pattern, corresponding to the segment from point 2 to point 3 in the diagram. Set aside the desired length of the cap from the middle of this segment and put point 1. Connect points 1 and 2 with a straight line, then connect points 1 and 3.

The second detail is half of the white trim along the edge of the cap. Its long side is equal to the base of the triangle, and its width is the desired width of the rim, in our example 6 cm.

The diameter of the round part is equal to the diameter of the desired pompom. For economical consumption of fabric, we recommend making it equal to the width of the fringe, so that when buying material you can take an even strip of fabric.

cutting

Allowances at all seams - 1 cm.

RED FABRIC

  • Required number of triangular wedges

IN WHITE FABRIC OR FUR

  • 2 trim parts or one folded part
  • 2 pom-pom circles

To cut faux fur with a sharp knife or razor blade, carefully cut the material along the outlined outline. Cut the woven backing, but do not touch the pile. Slowly move the edges of the cut out part, straightening the fur.

Progress

  • cap details
  • filler
  • , scissors, pins

Sew triangular wedges together, folding the pieces right sides inward.

Place two circles of white fur right sides together and stitch, leaving an open seam about 3 cm long.

Turn the pompom inside out, straighten the fluff that has fallen into the seam and stuff with filler.

Round the bottom edge of the red part and turn it inside out.

Insert the narrow end of the hat inside the white pompom. Turn the white edge inward and sew to the red part in a circle.

Fold the edge of the trim with the right side to the wrong side of the red edge of the cap, as shown in the photo. Chip by tucking the pile of fur inside the seam and spreading the seam allowances at the red part in different directions.

Sew. Turn the edge of the fringe outward and sew, tucking the top edge, with red threads to the red part of the cap.

You will see what a storm of emotions you will cause! In addition, sewing such a New Year's hat is not at all difficult, you only need 2 types of fleece - red and white, and an hour of free time.

ADVICE: Knowing the habits and character traits of your guests, decorate each New Year's hat in your own way - it can be applications, brooches or pompoms of various shapes - fantasize more boldly! Instead of the traditional pompom, we decorated our hat with a flirty bow.

New Year's hat: what you need

To sew a New Year's hat, you will need:

fleece red or of blue color- 0.4 m

fleece white color- 10 cm

Threads, measuring tape

Rice. 2. Measure the circumference of the head and set aside 1/2 of the circumference of the head along the edge of the fleece: 52 cm / 2 \u003d 26 cm. Since fleece stretches perfectly, you can make all hats (if you plan to sew them for friends) to make the same size.

Rice. 3. Divide the 26 cm set aside at the bottom in half and draw a 36 cm length up (the height of our cap). Connect the top point with the bottom ones - we got a triangle, which we cut out with 1 cm seam allowances. We need 2 such parts.

Rice. 4. Bend the white fleece in half and cut out a strip 52 cm long and 5 cm wide (when folded).
