Flowers made of gelatin fabric. Workshops on making flowers from fabric

Fabric flowers will never go out of style. On the contrary, the popularity of such flowers is growing every year. Young girls wear headbands with flowers or hairpins, decorate shoes with flowers. Women pin brooches made of fabric flowers to outfits, wear hats decorated with flowers. And of course, the flowers in the interior look unusually fresh and cheerful, creating coziness and sunny warmth in the house.

Poppies... It is impossible to explain why women all over the planet are so partial to these flowers. And even those who claim that they love roses more than anything in the world, when they see poppies, they become extremely delighted and do not see anything else around, and want only poppies, and all at once, even if chic roses lie nearby. What is the reason for such a mysterious popularity of poppies? Perhaps everything is simple: their scarlet color attracts the eye, and every woman inside is a fatal “girl in red”, who lacks only a scarlet poppy to complete the image? But I do not think that the riddle of poppies is so easy to solve ...

Creating flowers from fabric with your own hands is not easy. But with desire and diligence, you will definitely learn how to make real masterpieces. In this master class, we will make a field poppy. You can make a whole bouquet of poppies and put it in a vase, or you can make wonderful poppy shoes or a poppy headband, or maybe a poppy brooch? You decide, my dear fatal beauties.

Master class overview

01. We cut out patterns of the future flower from cardboard.

02. For one flower, from a thin satin (100% silk) treated with gelatin, we cut out 2 corollas of a flower. We apply the pattern along the oblique. We do not cut the petals to the center yet, but simply cut them out along the contour of the pattern. When cutting out, we carefully monitor that there are no traces of the handle on the details. We do not cut out the leaves of the future poppy. For them, you need to prepare a piece of satin treated with gelatin measuring 10 * 10 cm.

03. We are preparing a newspaper, a palette, paints for batik (green, red, scarlet, yellow), brushes, a jar of water. We breed 2 shades of red of different saturation, using colors from the palette. Moisten the part of the flower (poppy corolla) with water from a jar. With a lighter color, we begin to paint the petals with a movement "from the edge to the center." Towards the center, the color saturation will weaken.

04. We put accents on the edges of the petals with a more saturated color.

05. Color both parts of the flower in this way. Place the parts on a dry newspaper to dry a little.

06. Preparing black paint and a smaller brush. Carefully place 4 black spots on slightly damp details from the front (satin) side in the center of the flower with black paint. Do not overdo it, the spots will spread over time and become larger. Lay the parts on dry newspaper until completely dry.

07. We breed green color desired shades. Wet a piece of satin 10 * 10 cm with water. Spots apply different shades of green, blurring the border.

08. We lay the fabric to dry on a dry newspaper.

09. off the roll corrugated paper cut a strip 0.5 cm wide.

10. Take the wire in your right hand. Put a drop of PVA glue on the end of the wire. IN left hand take the strip of paper. At a 45 degree angle, attach a strip of paper to the wire.

11. Start twisting the wire between your thumb and forefinger right hand, while holding the paper taut with your left hand and with the index finger of your left hand firmly press the paper from below to the wire.

12. Continue winding the wire, constantly making sure the paper is at a 45 degree angle to the wire and taut. Gradually move your fingers lower, winding the paper along the entire length of the wire.

13. When you reach the end of the wire, cut off the paper, leaving a small tip.

14. Put a drop of glue on the tip of the paper.

15. Attach the tip of the paper to the wire.

16. Moisten your index finger with PVA glue and coat the wire along the entire length and lay to dry. Prepare, thus, 5 wires 30 cm long.

17. Cut out 2 small and 2 large leaves from the green-dyed satin.

18. With wire cutters, divide one wire into several parts by eye.

19. Glue the leaves to the wire from the wrong side with PVA glue. Leave to dry.

20. Cut the whisk into petals.

21. Bulk 20mm on a soft pillow, fill the base of the petals on the front side.

22. Roll the edges of the petals on a soft or medium pillow 5-8 mm, then from the face then from the inside, imitating the natural wrinkling of the petal, and without touching the folds.

23. Fill the center of the whisk.

24. With a double knife on the front side, draw a central vein from the wire to the edge of the petal.

25. With a single knife on the front side, draw additional veins on the petals.

26. Bulk 3-5 mm, from the wrong side, from the edge to the center, between the veins, roll small bulges on the petals, give them volume.

27. Prepare 2 long wires and a strip of cotton wool. At the end of 2 wires, bend the end with thin-nosed pliers. Start forming a cotton ball at the end of the wire by twisting a strip of cotton.

28. Lubricate the end of the cotton wool with glue and secure. Squeeze the cotton to form a ball.

29. Cut a small square off the crepe paper.

30. Gently stretch the paper over the balloon and secure with string under the balloon.

31. Cut off the excess paper.

32. Wrap the veins on the ball with threads, fasten the threads by tying them in a knot under the ball.

33. Corollas, leaves and box are ready.

34. Prepare the glue. Semolina or crushed coal. Black or green threads.

35. Wind the threads around 4 fingers.

Master class 1. Simple fabric roses in country style

If you like, or rustic, then this master class is for you. Below are examples of work that you can do by mastering the technique of twisting fabric roses.

You will need:

  • Textile;
  • Scissors;
  • Hot glue gun.

How to make a fabric rose:

Step 1. Cut the fabric into ribbons. To create one rose, you will need one strip 50-70 cm long and about 3-5 cm wide. However, you can choose other sizes if you want to make the rose larger or smaller than in this project.

Step 2. Fold your strip in half and put a 1.5 cm line of glue on its tip (see right photo above).

Step 3. Start rolling the strip into a roll in a few turns.

Step 4. When the roll becomes dense and strong enough, proceed to the formation of the first "petals": fold the ribbon obliquely to the outside as shown in the upper photo on the right and wrap the center of the rose.

Step 5. Continue to form the petals in the same order: fold the ribbon on the bias to the outside - wrap the blank - fold the ribbon on the bias to the outside - wrap the blank - etc. There should be approximately 3-5 bends of the tape per row of petals. From time to time, layers of fabric need to be fixed with hot glue. As a result, you should get a rose like in these photos.

Experiment with the number of folds of the flower and the density of the fabric to achieve a more casual or, conversely, neater look for your flower.

Step 6. Once the rose has reached the desired diameter, lower the remaining ribbon tail down and glue it to the base.

In this project, the back side of the craft was covered with the remaining tail of the fabric.

Step 8. Make the number of colors you need in different sizes- small, medium and large.

This video presents a master class on how to make roses from denim with your own hands.

Master class 2. Artificial flowers made of satin fabric or organza

Looking at these flowers from satin fabric, it seems that they were created by a real master of flower making, but in fact, even a beginner can make the same realistic peonies / roses.

You will need:

  • Candle;
  • Satin, silk, chiffon or organza in 100% polyester. For the manufacture of peonies, white and pink matter (all shades) is suitable;
  • Scissors;
  • floss threads yellow color(for stamens);
  • Needle.

Instruction:

Step 1. Cut out 5 circles from the fabric: 4 circles with a diameter of 8-10 cm and 1 circle with a diameter of about 5-8 cm. You can cut it roughly and by eye, any inaccuracies and irregularities do not matter.

Step 2. Light a candle and start processing the first round blank: carefully bring its edge close to the flame and start rotating around its axis so that all the edges of the circle are melted and twisted. Be careful, keep a glass of water ready, and most importantly - do not bring the workpiece too close to the fire. Keep in mind that if you overdo it, the edges will turn black, which is not always desirable. However, sometimes it is the blackened edges that give homemade flowers realism or originality. Repeat this process with all remaining circles.

Step 3. Now, using scissors, make 4 cuts on each blank as shown in the diagram and photo below. The main thing here is to leave the center of the circle intact.

Step 4. Back to working with the candle again. This time, we melt the sections we just made by pushing the sections apart with both hands. Repeat the procedure with all five petals.

Step 5. Set 2 large and 1 smallest blanks aside. We will return to them, but for now let's take care of the 2 remaining blanks, that is, the middle layers of the peony petals. They need to be cut again according to the following scheme.

As a result, the petals will be twice as many.

Step 6 Scorch new cuts with a candle and set the blanks aside.

Step 7. It's time to make the peony stamens in the form of a small pompom from yellow floss threads. For this:

  • Wrap a whole thread of floss tightly around your index and middle fingers folded together. You should have about 8 turns.
  • Now tightly tie the middle of the resulting skein with the same yellow thread (between two fingers).
  • Cut two loops, straighten the threads and trim the pom-pom if necessary.

Step 8. We proceed to the "assembly" of the flower. Stack two large blanks on top of each other, which have only 4 petals, then put two blanks with 8 petals on top of them and, finally, complete the bud with the smallest blank with 4 petals.

Step 9. Hooray, the flower is almost ready! It remains only to sew a yellow pompom to its center, at the same time sewing all 5 layers of petals together.

If desired, glue / sew the necessary accessories to the back of the bud, for example, a pin, to make a brooch out of a flower.

By changing the shape, color, size of the petals, their number and the principle of gluing, you can make not only peonies and roses, but also poppies (pictured), ranunculus, lilies and tulips.

And here is an example of flowers made from organza.

Master class 3. A flower from frills in 5 minutes

You do not have hot glue, but do you have a needle and thread? Or did you suddenly need to make fabric flowers as quickly as possible? Then we hasten to introduce you to the technique of making flowers from frills.

You will need:

  • Textile;
  • Scissors;
  • Needle and thread to match the fabric;
  • Iron (optional).

Step 1. Cut the fabric into strips about 30 cm long and about 7-8 cm wide. You can choose other sizes to make the flowers smaller or larger.

Step 2. Fold the strip in half lengthwise and iron the fold.

Step 3. Baste the workpiece with wide stitches at the bottom as shown in the photo below.

Step 4 Gather the workpiece into an accordion by slowly pulling the thread. Do not pull the thread too hard to avoid breaking it.

Step 5. Close the circle by connecting the two ends of the tape and making a few stitches (tie a knot on the back).

Step 6. Glue/sew beads, rhinestones or buttons into the center of the flower. Ready!

This method can be changed slightly if you want to do more layered flower with raw cuts, such as linen or jeans. Cut out a wide and long strip of fabric, baste it in the middle from beginning to end, fold it into an accordion, roll one edge of the strip into a roll, and then begin to fold the tape around it. Periodically, layers of fabric need to be fixed with glue or stitches. Below in the photo slider is a master class in pictures on making a flower from flax (scroll the photo to the right).

If you have a large length of fabric, you can make a flower with a large diameter, for example, to decorate a pillow cover. To pick up such a long ribbon, the easiest way is to use a sewing machine.

To make such large flowers, you will need strips of fabric 2.5-3 m long

These potted flowers are made from old cotton t-shirts.

Master class 4. Volumetric pom-pom flower

This master class is good in cases where you need a fabric flower to be voluminous and lush.

You will need:

  • Any soft fabric desired color;
  • Hot glue gun;
  • Scissors;
  • Felt.

Instruction:

Step 1. Cut out about 20-30 circles with a diameter of about 4 cm from the fabric. All these circles will become petals in the future. You can cut blanks by eye, the correctness of the shape does not matter.

  • To cut several circles at once, simply fold the fabric 3-4 times.

Step 2. Now cut out a circle with a diameter of about 4 cm from the felt. This circle will become the base of your flower.

Step 3 Take one of your petal circles and fold it into a bag like the photo below.

Step 4. Glue your blank with the tip to the center of the felt base.

Step 5. Continue gluing your paper bags one by one to the felt base until it is completely covered with petals. Voila! The flower is ready!

If you wish, you can make the flower not lush, but flat and supplement it with beaded stamens. To do this, the petals need to be folded as follows: we bend the circle in half, then we bend the right and left parts of the resulting semicircle to its center to make a quarter. Next, you just have to glue the petals in a circle on a felt base, and then sew / glue beads into the center.

And a few more ideas that you can implement by following our master class.

And finally, we offer you to watch another video tutorial on how to make fabric flowers with your own hands.

First way

Preparation of gelatin:
Two teaspoons of gelatin are poured into an empty clean glass and poured
a little boiled cold water; let it stand for two hours until it
swell, and then add boiling water to the glass, stirring all the time.
The prepared material is placed on a plate or flat dish and swab
from a piece of gauze or a brush moisten it with warm gelatin. Dry
the fabric needs to be so that it hangs in one layer, and not twice, otherwise it
will stick together and will be ugly in these places. When the tissue is completely
dries, it is ironed with a not very hot iron. Don't need much
gelatinize and overstarch the material, otherwise it will be hard,
will lose its elasticity, flowers made from it will take on an inanimate
look, they will look like tin. Velvet is starched or gelatinized in
stretched, pinned to a frame or hoop. Layer is applied
carefully on the left side of the material so that the starch does not pass on
the right side of the velvet, otherwise the pile will stick together.

You can starch velvet in a different way:
Lightly smearing the left side of the velvet with gelatin or glue, on it
apply a layer of gauze or thin cambric (silk, if there will be
visible left-hand side) and again smeared with starch or gelatin. Give
dry taut.

Second way

Necessarily! Before treating the fabric with gelatin, wash a piece of new fabric in soapy water, do not iron after drying.
Then, pour 3 teaspoons of gelatin into a small container of 200 ml.
cold water and let this solution brew for at least 1 hour. Then,
the dishes with the solution must be placed in a water bath, and constantly
while stirring, heat until the lumps are completely dissolved, but do not bring to
boiling!
The solution is ready, you can gelatinize the fabric. Dip a piece of cloth into the hot
gelatin and allow the tissue to completely soak. Then take the fabric out
solution and do not wring out, but only skip the fabric between the large and
index fingers, lightly pressing on the fabric and, as it were, removing excess
gelatin in a bowl.
Now the piece of fabric needs to be carefully straightened and hung over the bathtub.
on a thin thread or fishing line in one row, securing the fabric with pins at the edges
and let dry.
Do not iron the fabric after drying!
Important: different proportions of gelatin are used for different fabrics, above
the proportion for natural silk is given, it is important to remember that what
the thinner the fabric, the more gelatin it needs, respectively, than
it is thicker, the smaller.

You can’t tell about fabric flowers in one MK, I was engaged in this type of creativity 10 years ago, while still at school, and then I safely abandoned this lesson, so I don’t know any tricks, some require special devices.
very detailed everything about tools, materials and techniques, as well as manufacturing lessons.
In my MK I will try to tell you how to make flowers like on this postcard.

For this we need
1. gelled fabric
2.Flower patterns.

3. Fabric paints or scrapbooking ink, well, or something that can be used to tint the petals and leaves.
4. Scissors.
5. Decoration in the form of a bead or brads or a button - for the core of the flower.
6. Glue for flower assembly.
7. thin cotton fabric or handkerchief.

Well let's start :)
1. To begin with, we cut out the petals and leaves from the gelled fabric ..
It should be noted that when cutting out the details of the petals and leaves are laid out on an oblique thread, this is important!

2. The cut petals are tinted.
There are no prohibitions here, since we make stylized flowers, not copies of living ones, there is room for your imagination to roam here :)
Usually, fabric dyes are used for tinting, aniline (from a hardware store), acrylic (from a fabric store), ink (from stationery). You can tint on dry petals and on wet ones.

Here are some ways:

a) moisten the petal by dipping it in cold water, lay it on a napkin or paper towel, and tint it with a brush, running along the edge of the petal and at the base of the petal.

Since we are making a flower for scrapbooking, we do not touch the reverse side of the petal, leave it to dry by transferring the petal to a clean area of \u200b\u200bthe napkin. It is better if you use tweezers when tinting and do not get your hands dirty and the petals do not stretch.

b) You can also touch up dry, before shirring - then just run along the edge with an ink pad and a little towards the center with a piece of sponge.

Or, after corrugation, we tint the petals, placing the emphasis on the texture.

3. The most difficult stage is corrugation, to be honest, it is easier to show than to describe: (although there is nothing complicated in it.
So, prepare the parts by folding them in half lengthwise, right side out.

To pleat the petals, take a piece of thin fabric or a handkerchief (but be prepared for it to tear).
Put it on the table. Put a petal in the middle.

Fold the fabric diagonally, from corner to corner, so that the fold of the fabric exactly matches the fold of the petal. The base of the petal should point in your direction. I find it more convenient to do this at the very edge of the table.

With your left hand, press the “sandwich to the table” very tightly, and with your right hand, grab the upper corner of the fabric.

Start pulling the fabric from under your left hand, making a sort of semicircle towards you.

At the same time, the left hand continues to strongly press the fabric with the petal.

In the same way we corrugate the rest of the petals and leaves.
Try to process the petal in one go. You can, of course, repeat it, but then the fabric will become much softer and it will be more difficult to work with the flower.

For a double blue petal, the technology differs only in that, having corrugated one petal, you turn the workpiece over and corrugate the second one.

Be patient, and at first I would advise you to practice on larger petals, it's easier with them :)
Carefully spread the petals.

Do the same with the rest of the blanks.

4. Now let's start assembling our flowers.
For big flower cut out a circle from thick paper on it, we will glue the petals.

Creating graceful and beautiful , I want to prolong the pleasure as long as possible, complementing my image with them. It is precisely so that in the process of manufacturing the details of the future flower can be easily processed, and finished flower kept its unique shape, the fabric must first be treated with a special solution.

In modern floriculture, there are 4 main fabric processing method which have both their pros and some cons. What we will now understand with you.

1. Treatment of tissue with gelatin

The first and probably the most common way to process fabric is. This method is mainly used for processing silk fabrics.

Traditional gelatin solution recipe:

3 teaspoons + 350 ml of water, but if you want to create a light, windy floral decoration, then you can completely do with two teaspoons (this ratio is great for natural satin fabric). 350 ml of cold water pour 3 tsp. gelatin and leave to swell for 30-40 minutes. As soon as the gelatin is completely swollen, we heat the solution in a water bath to a transparent state, while the gelatin solution should in no case boil, otherwise it will no longer be suitable for use!

After the finished solution has cooled down a bit, you can safely process the fabric with it. At the same time, the fabric must first be washed lightly in a soapy solution, allowed to dry, after drying, do not iron and, for ease of processing, cut into small pieces of 30 * 30 or 30 * 40 cm. and removing excess gelatin with your fingers, straighten and hang to dry on a fishing line or thread, securing with pins. After drying, the fabric is ready for further processing.

Depending on the density of the tissue, the amount of gelatin varies and it is important to remember that the thinner the tissue in its structure, the greater should be the mass fraction of gelatin in the prepared solution.

+ When processed with gelatin, flower parts are easily processed and hold their shape well.

Gelatin solution gives a yellowish tint to light fabrics and with this treatment it is very difficult to achieve an impeccable snow-white product, so this method is rarely used for making wedding flowers.

2. Treatment of fabric with starch

Cotton fabrics are usually treated with potato starch.

To do this, stir 1 tablespoon of potato starch in 2 glasses of cold water and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. After that, it is allowed to cool to a warm state and the fabric is treated in the same way as with a gelatin solution.

+ Starching does not impart yellowness to products.

Products are poorly resistant to moisture.
