Pattern

First you need to make a pattern. First you need to take measurements:

  • head girth;
  • distance from the middle of the forehead to the crown;
  • distance between temples.

  6. Connect points L1 and B with a straight line.

Fold the fabric right side inward and proceed as follows:

  1. Lay the pattern of the main part so that the fold of the fabric coincides with the fold line of the pattern.
  2. Circle the pattern with chalk or soap without an allowance.
  3. Cut out the piece.

Visor

It is cut in the same way as the main part, only 0.5 cm allowances must be made for all sections. To make the visor more rigid, it can be reinforced with interlining or a lining made of a denser fabric.

Assembly:

  1. Process the cuts of the main part with an overlock or manually ( buttonhole stitch fits best, but the loops should be even and lie close to each other).
  2. Strengthen the details of the visor with adhesive interlining.
  3. Lay them right sides up.
  4. Sweep and stitch along all cuts, except for the one that will be sewn to the main part.
  5. Trim the seam allowances so that no more than 2 mm is left before the seam.
  6. Cut the corners at a 45° angle.
  7. Turn out the visor.
  8. Iron the seams.
  9. Iron loose allowances inwards.
  10. Align the middle of the fold of the visor with the middle of the main part and pin with a tailor's pin.
  11. Attach the visor.

Taking measurements

To make a brim hat, you will need the following measurements:

  • head girth;
  • margin width;
  • crown height;
  • bottom diameter.

We remove the girth of the head in the usual way - by applying the zero mark of the centimeter tape to the middle of the forehead, we draw it along the most convex parts of the skull - just above the ear, above the back of the head, above the second ear and again to the middle of the forehead.

All other measurements are optional. For example, the width of the fields can be 10 cm, the height of the crown is from 5 to 15 cm, the diameter of the bottom is 5-10 cm.

Finish assembly

All work must be carried out very carefully, trying to ensure that the glue does not get on the front side of the fabric:

  1. We glue the crown with an overlap - the cut of the fabric in this place should be perfectly even, you can pre-process it with an overlock.
  2. We bend the top allowance of the crown to the wrong side at an angle of 90 °, grease it with glue and attach the bottom.
  3. We bend the lower allowance of the crown outward at the same angle and grease it with glue.

  5. We press firmly.
  6. We close the junction of the crown and fields with a hat ribbon.

    Decorate the prepared strip of paper. Take markers, wax or regular colored pencils, paints and apply color patterns on a paper strip in the style of the Wampanoa, Lenape or Abenaki Indians.   1. Pick up paper for making feathers. If you don't have real or artificial feathers, you can make your own from construction paper. To do this, you need to cut out elongated ovals and cut a fringe along their edges. You can use any color paper and any number of pens. For example, you can make the feathers red, yellow, and orange, or use the same color paper as the pattern on the brown headband.

    Cut out paper ovals for making feathers. Draw a narrow elongated oval on the first sheet of construction paper, it should be at least 15 cm long and 2.5 cm wide. Cut out the oval. Prepare a few more feathers in the same way.

    Fold the ovals lengthwise and cut along the edge of the fringe. Fold one oval in half lengthwise and make a series of cuts along the curved edge. The cuts should not intersect and reach the fold. At the same time, they should cover the entire curved edge from top to bottom.

    • The share fold on the oval paper imitates the presence of a central core. Don't worry about perfect symmetry when making a fold, as even real feathers aren't always perfectly symmetrical.
    • Unfold the pen fold. Repeat the whole process with the other colors of the paper pens from the design paper.

  2. Glue paper feathers to the headband. Glue the paper feathers to the inside of the headband and let the glue dry. Feathers should be turned up and fan out from one point. One central feather can stand strictly straight, but the rest should be tilted.

    Combat headdress made of paper and feathers

    1. Gather the required materials. You will need scissors, a tape measure, a hole puncher, a paper binder, stationery glue, or a hot glue gun. You will also need corrugated cardboard, crepe paper, artificial nibs or paper for making your own nibs.

      Cut off a strip of corrugated cardboard. It should have a width of about 4 cm, and be 5 cm longer than the girth of the head of the person for whom the Indian headdress is intended.

    4. Decorate the outside of the headdress. You can cover it with fabric, red crepe paper or decorate it with beads. When using crepe paper, you should prepare a strip 5 cm wide and 30 cm longer than the circumference of the headdress itself.

      • Cover the outside of the cardboard ring with crepe paper. At the same time, the paper from the top and bottom edges should protrude beyond the edges of the cardboard by about 5 mm, and you should also have two equal in length (15 cm each) freely hanging ends of the paper strip.

    5. Cut the fringe along the edges of the crepe paper. If you used crepe paper to decorate the headdress, make a fringe on it. Take scissors and make cuts around the entire perimeter of the protruding top and bottom edges of the paper strip.
