Although my eldest is happy to do such things! There will be a piggy bank for fresh ideas! I haven't tried the recipe yet, but I'm going to. I see several reasons to make paints yourself:

1. I will know the composition exactly!

2. I don’t know if such an activity will suit us, so as not to miscalculate.

3. So much cheaper.

4. I like the process itself! I love doing things for kids! So, I plagiarized it on bebira in some blog.

In this article I will tell you how we got acquainted with finger paints, what can be painted with paints, from what age you can use them.

Let's start with what we bought finger paints for. I am constantly looking for how to develop a baby, especially now, when the first speech skills are being formed. Finger painting develops hand motor skills, and development fine motor skills, directly related to speech, it’s not for nothing that they say that kids need to do gymnastics thumb, make circular, rotational movements - this affects the development of speech. Also, drawing with finger paints gives a clearer perception of specific colors. And finally, the method of applying such paints has a positive effect on the emotional state of the child, and his overall development.

At what age can you use finger paints?

Paints are completely harmless and therefore it is allowed to use them for children up to three years. Some moms start using them from three months old in order to rush to develop their baby. To be honest, it seems to me a comfortable age to start using paints, when the child at least sits on his own, put him next to him and tell him calmly, show him the world of colors. At the expense of “calmly”, I, of course, got excited, because small children are big fidgets and simply cannot sit still, therefore, in the process of drawing, traces of paints cannot be avoided everywhere.

A few tips before you start drawing: Prepare a large paper, create more space around the child. Remove the carpets, stay away from the sofa so that it doesn’t get dirty, put on the child and yourself, something that you don’t mind getting dirty. I am glad that the paints are perfectly washed.

What can be painted with finger paints? ANDhow to use?

The most common is to make prints of the hands and feet of the baby.

We prepared paints, water is not required, we dripped each paint, commented on the process, this is red paint, this is yellow, blue, etc. Then you take the child's pen and smear this whole thing on paper, the baby likes it. Then you make handprints in two, three copies and after that give your beloved grandmother, sign and put in a photo album and everyone is happy.

In addition, you can make stencils, for example, print or draw a flower, leaf or Christmas tree and cut out the middle, then apply the stencil to the place where the baby smeared the paint and comment with delight “Oh, what a wonderful Christmas tree we got!” After all, the main thing is to create a mood in your creation 🙂 (an example is attached)

At an older age, when the child begins to speak, after you draw your palms with him or simply brush the leaf, ask the child the question, what did we do? who did we draw? Let the child imagine, maybe he will see a bird, house, mother)

And when you get acquainted with paints, you can ask your baby, what paint do you like best or what color are you in the mood for today?

And here is our work))

Every parent understands how important it is to develop creativity in a child. Most affordable way- get him interested in drawing. In the process of creativity, the child develops imagination, creative thinking and taste.

It is often not easy for young children to learn how to draw and color with pencils, therefore, it is better to try drawing with fingers first, because controlling your fingers is much easier than a pencil or felt-tip pen. In addition, finger painting is great for developing fine motor skills and will prepare your child's hand for "real" drawing with a brush or pencil.

Drawing with finger paints is very entertaining, because it makes it possible to mix colors, thereby the kid invents shades himself. By coloring with fingers, the child will quickly learn to feel the boundaries of the image. This process has a positive effect on the mood and behavior of children, sharpens sensations and stimulates actions.

The first experience in drawing will influence the future of the child, so it is better for parents to prepare for this event. First, let's choose the colors. Those paints that you buy in the store are ready to use, they do not drip, they are easily washed off and washed off. Finger paints: at what age can you draw with your hands?

For example, Nerchau finger paints comply with the European norm EN 71 for the safety of toys, are marked with the CE mark and therefore can be given without any doubt to children from the age of three. They contain preservatives used in perfumery and in the food industry. Finger paints are edible but contain a harmless bitter substance to keep children from wanting to eat them. The paints are water-based and wash off easily with water. Don't worry if your child puts his finger in his mouth while painting - finger paints are not toxic.

Homemade finger paints

An alternative to purchased finger paints is homemade. In order to make finger paints yourself you will need: 0.5 kg of flour, 5 tablespoons of salt, 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and water (to the consistency of thick sour cream). We mix all this with a mixer, then pour the resulting mass into separate jars, add food coloring (turmeric, beetroot or carrot juice, or take Easter sets for this), mix again until smooth.

For the first experiment, you can also take regular yogurt of different shades, such as strawberry, blueberry, banana. With such paints of pastel shades, you can draw even from a year old.

How to draw with finger paints?

Well, shall we get started? We dress the child in those clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, take a large sheet of drawing paper (you can take a roll of unnecessary wallpaper), lay it on the floor and go. We pour paints into a palette or saucers and begin to draw ourselves, showing the baby our actions.

Let your first drawings be a juicy piece of stoned watermelon or a bunch of grapes. You can just leave handprints. Believe me, there is only one drawback in this process - it is a “colorful child”, and there are a lot of advantages. You can also draw right in the bathroom, painting the sides, here you can immediately wash your hands.

The finger that I dipped in the paint leaves marks on the paper! - the baby experiences bright and creative emotions. The main thing for him now is not the result, but the creative process. When the baby “plays” on his own, having enjoyed his “scribbles” to his heart's content, show him new ways of depicting: vertical, horizontal and oblique lines, spiral shapes, circles.

But if the child refuses to draw, does not want to get his fingers dirty, hurries to wash his hands - this indicates that he is internally clamped, perhaps there are problems in mental development (fears, anxiety) or the parents are too protective of the baby, or, conversely, he does not have enough affection, communication. In any case, you should pay attention to the attitude of the baby to finger paints.

You ask, at what age can you start painting with finger paints? Of course, you can draw with your fingers even at 3 months with the help of your mother, but as practice shows best time- from about 8 months. But on many boxes with paints it is written - "from 3 years old".

A few decades ago there was no such thing as finger paints. In childhood, we painted only with a brush, at most with a cotton swab and other objects. The modern stationery industry brings to our attention finger paints - interesting, exciting, and most importantly - safe!

Benefits of finger paints

Today they paint with paints from the very early age even up to a year. This is not surprising, every mother wants to develop her child, to bring up an aesthetic beginning in him. Initiation to creativity is a long way, but you should not limit it to age. Already in infancy, a child can find favorite colors, draw incomprehensible shapes and pictures. It is very interesting to mix paints with each other and get extraordinary shades.

In addition to artistic education, finger painting is a fine motor skills training. And this, in turn, gives a powerful impetus to the development of the child's speech.

Drawing is also a whole bunch of positive thoughts and emotions. A rare kid will remain indifferent with such a fun pastime. Drawing teaches many hyperactive kids to be attentive, focused, diligent. In addition, finger paints are very easy to wash and wash, which makes their use even more convenient and practical.

How to choose finger paints

The first criterion for choosing finger paints is their safety. After all, kids often put their hands in their mouths, right with the paint. This should not deter parents from using this product. Before buying, carefully read the composition of the paints. Only natural ingredients should be indicated there - flour, salt, starch, food coloring. The paint must be water based. Due to the fact that all components of paints are natural, the shelf life of this product is very short. When buying paint, pay attention to the fact that the period has not expired.

Do not immediately take a large palette of colors. Before first use, buy 4-5 bright colors that will please the child. After all, it’s important to introduce the child first, what if he doesn’t like it? Given that paints deteriorate quickly, there is no need to throw money away.

When choosing a paint, pay attention to the consistency of the liquid. The paint should be fluid, moderately thick. Buy paint from large and trusted manufacturers.

How to prepare for drawing

This is almost main question which worries many parents. The degree of preparation depends on the cleanliness of the room after drawing, as well as the interest of parents in repeating the experiment.

First, select a place where the drawing will take place. It is better to always draw in the same place, so that later the child does not go beyond the designated limits. It can be a table or a corner on the floor. If you draw on the floor, remove carpets and paths, you can cover them with oilcloth. It is also better to cover the sofa and other upholstered furniture with oilcloth. Whatman paper or large sheets of A3 format are best suited as a canvas for drawing. Ordinary album leaves are probably not enough for your baby's creativity to fly.

Before drawing, put on clothes that you don’t feel sorry for yourself and your baby. Paints are easy to clean, but a safety net won't hurt anyone. If it’s warm at home, you can let the child go right in panties or a diaper - it will be easier to wash off. Also in art stores you can buy a special waterproof apron that will protect you from paint.

When everything is ready, you can start the drawing process itself.

  1. Dip your finger in the paint and show your child it's completely safe. Run your finger across the paper.
  2. If the child is interested, dip his finger and also swipe over the paper.
  3. After that, let the baby take the initiative - let him choose the right paint and make a few strokes.
  4. Do not forget to repeat the name of the flowers - so the child will remember them better.
  5. When the child is well acquainted with the colors, you can draw certain pictures. Show your child how to draw the sun. Let it be a simple yellow blot at the top of the drawing paper - praise the child and his creativity.
  6. Little kids can successfully draw rain or snow. You need to draw a cloud and show how to put your finger on it and say "drip-drip". Draw such a rain of blue color will be very exciting.
  7. You can try all the colors by drawing a rainbow. Just run your hand along the same trajectory, alternately dipping your fingers in different colors.
  8. You can make a bouquet of handprints. To do this, moisten your palm in one paint and make an imprint of this palm on paper. Similarly, repeat the prints with other colors. Then add stems and leaves to the improvised palms, you will get a charming bouquet.
  9. Make a memory imprint of the child's hand and foot. Subsequently, this picture can be dried and stored for many years to come. And you can also make an imprint as the child grows - you can see for yourself how quickly and intensively your baby grows.
  10. After painting, dry the painting and hang it in a conspicuous place. The child will be proud of his creativity. And also this lovely gift for grandma or grandpa from a little toddler. Show the picture to your dad in the evening so that he will definitely praise his young artist.

You can make your own finger paints - mix water, oil and flour so that you get a thick mixture. As a coloring pigment, you can take saturated vegetable and fruit juices. And in order to discourage the child from trying paint, they add a large number of salt.

Finger paints are an opportunity for a child to express their emotions and feelings. Give your child the freedom to be creative - let him paint!
