Towel symbols

As we noted above, the main colors of the Easter towel are black and red. Black, as we know, is the color of the other world, death. And red is a symbol of protection, affirmation of life. This is the blood that was shed in the struggle for their native land. Only in our time has the symbolism expanded. If you use gold or yellow when embroidering, then know that they represent heavenly fire. Blue is a clear symbol of peace of mind and purification. You can use green, but in a very limited amount. It means youth and the flowering of life - spring.
Now a few words directly about the drawings. Painted eggs must be depicted on your Easter towel. They are a symbol of eternal life and rebirth. Also try to embroider a beautiful Easter cake, which, as you might guess, is a clear symbol of fertility.

Such canonical Orthodox towels - no other images have long been applied to them. However, today you can see a rabbit or chickens with a chicken on the towel. Know that these motifs are borrowed from the Catholic Church.

Towel embroidery for Easter: what rules to remember

So, you have decided to embroider a towel for Easter with your own hands. Even if you have very little time, do not rush - you can start work only on Thursday. The day before embroidery is required. Select natural fabric and be sure to good mood- positive energy will definitely be transferred to the product.

As for the size of the towel, there are no strict restrictions. The standard size is as follows: thirty centimeters wide, and seventy in length. But each value must be divided by seven - following the Holy Scriptures, this number is perfect.

The canvas must be solid, which means that it is impossible to decorate the cut with hemstitches. However, the edges can be decorated with fringe or tassels. Wool threads are best used with silk or wool, but cotton and linen will also work.

Treat the process very carefully: the towel should be as accurate as possible, which means that the wrong side should also be beautiful. It is generally accepted that the front side is embroidered for a person, and the wrong side is for the Lord. It is desirable to sew a towel with one needle.

Towels for Easter with a cross: Russian or Bulgarian?

There are two ways to cross-stitch: there is a Bulgarian cross and a Russian one. Russian is performed as follows: the needle is led from the left side to the right. Then the thread is fixed in the corner of the cage, and is led to the opposite corner diagonally. A puncture is made, and then the needle moves to the third corner of the cage. We do not fasten the thread, but go diagonally to the opposite corner. Ready! How to embroider Easter towels with a cross, see the diagram below.

The Bulgarian cross is embroidered in a completely different way. It's more complex, as there are two additional criss-cross lines. Such embroidery, as a rule, is not evaluated from the inside - they look only at the front side. How to embroider Bulgarian cross Orthodox towel for Easter, look at the diagram.

In the vast expanses of Russia, such needlework as embroidery has existed since very ancient times. In the old days, this was the only way to decorate clothes and household items. Almost everything that was woven from fabric was embroidered: shirts and skirts, scarves and dresses, window curtains, bedding, tablecloths and towels. To decorate all these things was used.

Towels were embroidered on linen with linen, woolen and silk threads, because cotton was not imported or grown in those days. threads dyed natural dyes vegetable or mineral origin. The most common color of embroidery is red, blue was used less often and green colors. And only in two or three regions black was added to the embroidery.

Russian folk embroidery on a towel was made using the whole variety of motifs and ornaments that existed in Rus'. The most common ornaments of ancient Rus' are figurines of birds, horses and trees. This choice was made on the basis of ancient Slavic traditions. They tell of an ancient bird called the sun that lived in a magical tree, and of a horse that made the sun move.

It was the Russian tradition that determined the fact that most of all birds were embroidered on towels. Very often they were placed in one row, one after the other. But sometimes they are present in a complex plot, or compositions with plants or female figures.

An embroidered horse can be found less often than a bird, but it looks very beautiful on the canvas, and resembles a clay horse, which is also present in Russian folk art. A tree or other plant is often embroidered near the horse. Very often there are old towels with embroidery of plants, most often trees, which are almost always in the center of the plot, as if being the object of worship of all the other participants in the composition. The ancient Slavs worshiped trees, and they were often embroidered inside temple-like structures. Any work was done in a strict geometric manner, which is typical even for embroidered tulips and roses.

From time immemorial, the art of cross-stitching has come to us. Our ancestors decorated towels, napkins, tablecloths and even curtains with unique ornaments. The color of this decor is to the liking of many modern housewives and cross stitch patterns for the kitchen never go out of style.

A towel embroidered with an intricate pattern served as a kind of symbol of hospitality. Many items embroidered 50-100 years ago have retained their beautiful appearance up to this day. A real masterpiece of embroidery can be called the technique of drawing a picture on both sides of matter, but this work requires skill and great experience. In this article, we will take a closer look at patterns for the kitchen that any woman can embroider if she wants to bring a touch of warmth and comfort to the interior of her kitchen.

History of cross stitch

Cross-stitching on fabric was very popular in Rus'. Every self-respecting young lady knew how to do this, they mastered the art in their early youth. It takes quite a bit to work: threads, a piece of canvas and the imagination of a needlewoman.

Why is the popularity of this type of needlework so great? Some are fascinated by the process itself - the gradual creation of beauty, the creative effect. Many experience unheard of joy after the completion of the work, when the complex pattern succumbed and was successfully transferred to the fabric.

A hobby is that area of human life that is inexplicable to others. Some people like fishing, others love carpentry. Embroidery is a delicate occupation that requires maximum attention and accuracy from the performer, after all, one wrong stitch can greatly spoil the overall impression of the finished product.

A hand-embroidered towel is a wonderful gift for a close relative. The whole soul and a huge expenditure of effort, time and imagination are invested in such a present.

Space for imagination

Patterns for cross stitch in the kitchen are in demand among simple housewives and those craftswomen who subsequently sell their work. Where can you find such products? In many in public places: in fashionable restaurants with a colorful rustic style, in cozy cafes and even in private clinics. In the latter, such towels increase the degree of comfort and coziness.

An interesting solution when decorating the halls of restaurants is the use of napkins on which the logo of the institution is embroidered. The development of this trademark is carried out by special people, and embroidery is trusted only by professionals.

If the order quantities are large, manual labor technology replaces. Machine embroidery is in no way inferior to handmade needlework in quality, because it is impossible for one person to create several dozen identical patterns. Each hand-embroidered item is unique.

What can be transferred to textiles besides the logo? Creating a personalized towel is a great occasion to please a birthday person or just a loved one. On the Internet today you can find an embroidery pattern for almost every women's or male name, and if it was not possible to find it, you can make the desired combination of individual letters. You can simplify your task and put only the initials of the recipient on the towel, which looks no less stylish and original.

Complex cross-stitch patterns for the kitchen are unlikely to be reproduced the first time, this will take time and patience. Better practice first for more simple patterns: images of leaves, apples, hearts, etc. Increasing the level of skill gradually, you can master more and more new techniques, secrets and subtleties of needlework.

The subtleties of embroidery

All schemes for the kitchen are always transferred to a plain fabric. This is understandable - on a colorful background, the pattern will be lost and will not look good. Most often, the material is taken dense and white; in the old days, towels were made only from linen. In many villages, you can still find embroidered towels, napkins and kitchen towels.

The quality of embroidery is of great importance. After all, if you make a lot of knots on the wrong side of the fabric, such a product will not become a work of art. In addition to the low aesthetic value of a carelessly embroidered towel, it will not be convenient to wipe your hands and face - the knots can catch on the skin, and the pattern will begin to unravel.

It is very convenient to embroider on canvas - a special fabric with a square section of threads. Cross-stitch patterns are well tolerated on such a structure, due to the specifics of the technology.

You can choose threads of any color, but do not forget - too bright and juicy shades in abundance can tire your eyes or stain each other when washing. Therefore, professionals recommend approaching the choice of threads very deliberately, because an oversight in this matter can result in the creation of a product of not very high quality.

Many cross stitch patterns for the kitchen are developed by experienced needlewomen, they describe in detail all the subtleties (including the type and color of the threads necessary for work).

The embroidered canvas, which is sewn to the bottom of the kitchen curtains, looks interesting. It is impossible not to notice such a bright detail in the interior, the hostess can involuntarily show off her talents and surprise guests, please the household.

Important: the canvas is sewn with threads to match the product, which serves as the base. If the curtain is yellow, then the threads for attaching the cross-embroidered canvas should be chosen in the sunny color.

The needle must be taken with a very sharp tip so that it does not greatly injure the base fabric.

Kitchen towels with embroidery

Schemes for the kitchen, transferred to waffle or linen towels, bring originality and mischief into the atmosphere of kitchen decoration. To reproduce a complex, intricate pattern with a large number of small elements, it is necessary to use a water-soluble type of canvas. Simple ornaments can be embroidered directly onto the fabric.

If the kitchen decor is made in a romantic style, then you can embroider hearts on towels with pink and red threads. Two colors are in perfect harmony with each other and emphasize the overall style.

It is convenient to embroider on a waffle cloth, this is due to the structural feature of the material itself - the cells serve as an excellent grid for applying patterns and ornaments with a cross. In addition, waffle towels are softer and cozier than thick linen. The latter, by the way, fits perfectly into eco-style kitchens, when everything is natural: furniture, textiles, decoration, etc.

On sale you can find any kind of fabric for embroidery, with different sizes and shapes of cells. At first, it is better to use large cellular bases and more simple drawings. On the diagrams, which serve as a needlewoman's guide to action, keys are often applied on the side - the designation of specific embroidery steps. The arrow indicates the direction of movement of the needle. Understanding the scheme is a big plus in mastering cross stitch.

The material for embroidery and kitchen decoration should be strong, durable and plain. If the finished product will only decorate the interior, this is one thing. But, if the owners intend to use towels or napkins embroidered with patterns, increased requirements are placed on their structure. The stronger the fabric, the longer it will last in the kitchen. This is due to the specificity of the microclimate of this room: high humidity, frequent contact with water and pollution, regular washing.

Many housewives, having filled their hands with ready-made embroidery patterns, come up with their own patterns and share them online with pleasure. Handicraft helps to calm down nervous system, develop hand motor skills and decorate the house. Homemade textiles can be washed, ironed. They will please the eyes of the owners and guests for many years. Some works can be presented as a gift to relatives and friends. Back in Soviet times, people knew that the best present is made by hand, with soul and imagination.

Embroidery on a towel has its roots deep enough. Russian folk embroidery can rightly be considered its progenitor. And towels or towels accompanied a person throughout his life. The first and basic rule is the perfect wrong side. On the reverse side, everything should be as neat as on the face. Firstly, it is beautiful, and secondly, you are unlikely to like rubbing knots on your skin when using such a towel. Double-sided cross-stitching looks great on towels. Thanks to this embroidery, the front side not only looks neat, but is practically indistinguishable from the outside.

Embroidered towels can be found in many places. For example, in hotels, restaurants or private clinics. Many companies, hotels and restaurants use towels with a sewn or embroidered logo. Moreover, the design of this logo, of course, is developed individually for each. Of course they need a large number of such products. And since it is impossible to master such volumes with your hands, there are many companies that perform machine embroidery on a towel to order. In addition, these handmade towels will become a wonderful gift friends, acquaintances or relatives. Let's take a look at a few options decoration of this textile item necessary for any home. After all, with its help, our life can become not only more convenient, but also much more beautiful.

Named towel

Surely your family will like the idea of personalized towels. Use for this ready-made schemes with a name or collect an inscription from the letters of the alphabets made in different styles. In this scheme, letters decorated with roses are presented. You can make a whole name out of them or use one at a time as initials. Thirteen colors are used to sew each letter. Of these, as many as five shades of green. The work is done in the technique of counting the cross. No more stitches are used in this work. Except for the backstitch on the rose petals. The size of each letter is sixty by seventy crosses. You can use both white canvas and color.

But you can pick up a whole name scheme. It can be absolutely simple and monochrome or diluted with some small details or elements.

For example, such a name is embroidered simply in one color on any background that matches the shade.

We embroider a towel with a logo

If your dear person is a fan of a company or team, then you can embroider a towel with a logo for him. You can even come up with a product with your own logo. As an example, consider a small scheme with the logo of a well-known manufacturer. For such a scheme, it is best to choose a white background. In general, logos occupy a small area, so it’s better not to embroider them, as usual, on stripes, but to use a piece of water-soluble canvas for such embroidery. This small work uses six colors. The work is very simple as the colors simply follow one another in stripes. Embroidery on towels with a logo is quite fast, because it contains few colors and has a small size.

Bath towels with embroidery

Decorate beach or bath towels with bright interesting embroidery. This idea will be appreciated by the smallest members of your family. Children will be happy to wipe themselves with a towel, which depicts bright representatives of the underwater world or heroes of their favorite cartoons. As a rule, embroidery on bathroom towels is done on a strip of canvas and then sewn on. For example, you can use a wonderful scheme with colorful fish. In this work, 26 colors were used for crosses. As well as backstitch in three colors and even French knots. In the upper left corner of the figure, you can see the key with the icons corresponding to the thread numbers. In this vein, the designations are given for the threads of two manufacturers. These are DMS and Anchor threads. In the diagram, the middle is marked with black arrows. After the embroidery is finished, it should be washed in cool water, ironed and sewn to the towel using and pre-tucking the edges of the canvas. Of course, the thread for sewing must be selected in the color of the canvas. And one more important point. The needle with which you will sew the canvas to the towel should have a sharp tip.

Kitchen towels

An excellent decoration for the kitchen will be embroidery on waffle towels. Such a gift will be able to please any hostess. If you want to depict something multicolored with big amount details, it is better to use a water-soluble canvas. But if you choose a simpler pattern, it will be quite easy to embroider directly on the cells of such a towel. For example, here are the hearts. For sewing such a scheme, only two colors of threads are required. Red and pink. The center of the diagram is marked with a black arrow. All sorts of ornaments and patterns look good on waffle towels. They can be embroidered in one or two colors.

Of course, it is much more difficult to embroider more complex patterns on towel cells, but here everything will still depend on the size and shape of the cells. Sometimes they are too large or have rectangular shape. All this complicates the process of embroidery. Consider more complex scheme for a kitchen towel, which contains as many as three ornaments. To make such an embroidered towel, you will need many more colors. On the side of the diagram there is a key indicating the colors of the threads. In addition to the cross on such work, a “back to the needle” seam should be used.

Similar embroidery the best way will look good on towels that have inserts for embroidery. Or you can perform it using a water-soluble canvas or the same interlining with a grid applied that will correspond to one or another count of Aida.

Cross stitch on a towel: schemes and necessary materials

If you wish, you can always update your bathroom or kitchen. It is possible to fill your home with comfort using handmade embroidered towels.

The easiest way to do this is to purchase a ready-made embroidery kit from a craft store. However, you can make a separate pattern on the canvas, and then sew it onto the canvas. The result is beautiful embroidery on waffle towel or terry, it all depends on your imagination.

The work of embroidering miniatures will not take too much time, and even a novice needlewoman can handle it. For work, it is necessary to prepare such materials and tools:

  • color scheme for cross stitch;
  • floss threads (they must be of high quality with a stable color);
  • canvas;
  • hoop and needle;
  • sewing threads in the color of the canvas;
  • water-soluble marker for marking;
  • towel.

Work instructions

Getting started, the first step is to prepare the materials (ironing the canvas and marking 10 by 10 cells with a marker). Next, the canvas is pulled onto the hoop and work begins. To make the embroidery look neat, all stitches should go in the same direction. First, the row is passed with half-cross stitches in the direction from left to right. Then you need to go back, performing the same "half-cross" in the other direction. If desired, embroidery can be made more voluminous, for this you need to use thick threads or fold the floss several times.

When the work is finished, the canvas is removed from the hoop, washed in soapy water to remove the markup with a marker, and ironed through the fabric for not too high temperature. Finally, the ends of the canvas are tucked to the wrong side and sewn to the towel by hand with a blind seam.

Terry towel embroidery

When choosing a terry towel for such work, you need to understand that it is quite difficult to embroider on it. The fabric itself is not very simple, it does not have a smooth surface, and it will be problematic to transfer the sketch to it.

To date, for such work, most often used sewing machine. Although, if you try, make time and effort, then beautiful embroidery on a towel with your own hands can also be done, and the result will look amazing.

Since a terry towel has a fleecy structure, it is best to embroider on it with a stitch. In any case, the embroidered elements will differ in their texture, so it is best to highlight them with contrasting threads.

Getting started, the first step is to choose a suitable pattern - it can be initials, an inscription, or just beautiful drawing. In any case, the dimensions of the selected pattern must correspond to the dimensions of the towel itself.

Since patterns are problematic on terry fabrics, it is best to choose felt as the basis. Thanks to this, the embroidery on the towel will become more voluminous and convex. When using felt, the pattern can be made more noticeable.

The sketch must be cut out and basted to the selected part of the towel with regular stitches. After that, perform (manually or on a typewriter). In fact, the embroidery technique does not matter - it can be straight or oblique stitches. You need to pay attention to the fact that the edges of the sketch are not visible from the outside. It will look more on a towel if you perform it with a satin stitch with flooring.

With some effort and a little effort, you can make an original embroidered towel, which will become one of your favorite things or a wonderful gift.
