From an ordinary sock you can make a funny mimic dog doll. Why is such a doll called mimic? Of course, because she can convey facial expressions - frown, frown, raise her “eyebrows” in surprise or turn her nose up in displeasure. With mimic dolls it is very interesting to play different scenes. You can take a poem or just have a dialogue. Children like to speak themselves “for the doll” and when the doll “talks” to him. This toy is made very quickly and simply. You can use mimic dolls in games with children very early - from the second year of life and even earlier. But this is not necessarily a toy for kids to manage such a mimic dog on their own, play a performance with it, it will be interesting for children 5-11 years old. By the way, 9-10 year old children will be able to make a mimic doll out of a sock themselves.

To make such a mimic doll you will need:

  • Sock, better new
  • Felt, can be replaced with cardboard
  • Cardboard
  • Glue universal
  • A piece of foam rubber or synthetic winterizer

1. From cardboard, cut an oval with a short side along the width of your sock. Bend it in half.

2. Turn the sock inside out. Glue a cardboard blank onto the tip of the sock so that the fold of the oval coincides with the tip of the sock. Let the glue dry.

3. Turn the sock on the front side - you get a mouth. If desired, you can make a tongue for the dog - glue a strip of red felt into the doll's mouth.

4. Where our toe has a heel, glue or sew a small piece of foam rubber or padding polyester on the wrong side - this way we highlight the forehead of a mimic doll.

5. Make the nose of a dog from a sock out of a pom-pom or a convex button, you can sew it on large bead or make a ball out of fabric, stuffing it with padding polyester.

Make the eyes of the toy out of felt or cardboard. You can sew on buttons or stick ready-made eyes.

Ears, quite to a large extent, determine the character of the hand puppet. They can be made from felt or cardboard. Glue on triangular ears and you have a dog or shepherd dog, make them elongated and you have a spaniel.

Or make these dog ears out of a sock.

BULLDOG AND TAXI

A bulldog sat over a bone,

Tied to a pole.

Suitable taxi driver is small

With wrinkles on the forehead.

"Listen, bulldog, bulldog," -

Said the uninvited guest.

"Let me, bulldog, bulldog,

Eat that bone!"

The bulldog growls at the taxi:

"I won't give you anything!"

Bulldog runs after a taxi

And the taxi driver is from him.

They run around the pole

Like a beast bulldog growls

And the chain rattles around the post,

Rattles around the pole.

Now the bulldog has a bone

Don't take it anymore.

A taxi driver, taking a bone

The bulldog said:

"It's time for me to go on a date,

It's eight to five

How late,

Goodbye!

Funny and very lively, I liked them at first sight, it would seem just small toys, but how much individuality and inimitable charm are in each of them. Two master classes are devoted to the topic of how to make a Photo lesson will tell you about making a toy from cotton socks, and a video will introduce you to the technology of making charming Japanese dolls from nylon socks.

More master classes on making toys from socks (pictures are clickable)

The first photo of the master class was prepared by craftswoman Kasia, here is what she writes in the preface to her lesson: “It's funny, but before it never occurred to me to create some of my author's things and toys. I always used other people's patterns and did not try to come up with something. Once I tried to sew a sock doll myself and suddenly realized that I can create original things with my own hands. The first thing I sewed was the little boy you see in the photo on the right, the second toy that appeared in our house was a funny toothy cow.

Well, now, my dear friends, rate my first step-by-step guide.
Meet Benny, Paula, Inna, Daniel, Kater Carlo and Moritz. My daughter is using them as bowling pins for now, but over time I hope she will play other games like theater with them.”

In order to bring to life:

  • socks,
  • filler (synthetic winterizer, sintepuh or other),
  • decoration ribbon,
  • disappearing marker for temporary marking,
  • fabric glue,
  • yarn or thread for hair,
  • thread, needles, scissors
  • buttons
  • a circle of cardboard or other (better not wet) material,
  • movable eyes
  • acrylic outlines on fabric (optional)

Step 1. Trace any round object of a suitable size on cardboard or other suitable material. This circle will be the bottom of the toy on which it will stand. If you make it from waterproof material, then you can wash the doll. Insert the circle into the bottom of the sock as shown in the photo.

Step 2. Fill the sock with stuffing, to make the toy heavier and more stable, you can add granulate to the filler.

Step 3. Sew the sock at the top with the seam forward of the needle.

Step 4 Gather the sock as shown in the photo.

Step 5. Cut off the excess top of the sock.

Step 6. Turn the blank with the heel towards you - this will be the doll's face. In the center of the face, form a nose by gathering the fabric in a circle, grabbing the filler and then pulling the material into a ball.

STEP 7. Here is what you should get.

Step 8. Under the heel (head), lay the seam around the entire circumference of the workpiece and carefully pull it off, visually separating the torso from the head.

Step 9 Draw the face of the chrysalis with a disappearing fabric marker.

Step 10. Embroider the elements of the face or draw them with a marker on the fabric. Start the embroidery process by inserting a needle and thread from the back of the toy's head, finish embroidery and form knots also from the back of the head.

Step 11. To decorate the baby doll, sew original buttons to the body, continue to hide all knots on the back of the head.

Step 12. Pinch the parts of the workpiece on the right and left sides and fix them with tailor's pins - these will be the handles of the doll.

Step 13. Sew the handles as shown in the photo to create the illusion that the toy is holding its hands in pockets.

Step 14. Embroider pockets on the body of the toy.

Step 15. Form strands of hair from yarn.
