How to sew a costume of the Snow Maiden with your own hands new year holidays The Snow Maiden costume is popular and in demand among the fair sex of any age. The Snow Maiden costume is worn to congratulate children or as a carnival costume in new year's eve. There are many varieties of this costume, the proposed classic version of the outfit can be left unchanged or slightly diversified by changing the shape of the sleeves and hem. This master class describes the process of creating a classic version of the Snow Maiden costume, where a long coat of a wide style is cut. The kit includes mittens and a headdress for the image of the Snow Maiden.
How to sew a Snow Maiden costume Creating a New Year's costume is a creative process, so you need to approach the selection of materials and accessories with imagination. But in any case, for the outfit you will need:

  • A beautiful fabric of a blue tint with a snowy pattern or one-color (in the classic version - blue, but possibly white, silver, beige, lilac, pink). It is better to find a bike-quality fabric with a ready-made embossed pattern, but if your choice fell on a plain fabric, then it will have to be decorated with high quality. The quality of the fabric is better to choose gentle, soft, but at the same time practical. For example, a bike is suitable. In total, about 3 meters of a wide canvas (1.8-2 meters wide) will be needed, if the fabric is 1-1.5 meters, then it will take about 506 meters, but a wide canvas is easier to cut.
  • Artificial fur or any material with pile, such as velvet, corduroy white color for finishing the hem, sleeves, that is, cuffs, and shelves.
  • Lining is a smooth fabric, such as satin or a special thin lining material, that will slide over your clothes when putting on a suit and not gather in folds at the waist.
  • Elements for decoration - braid, beads, sequins, etc., which will add elegance, idleness appearance suit.
  • The zipper is about 1.5 meters long, we will sew it on the front shelves.
  • Sewing supplies such as thread, needles, scissors, measuring tape, chalk and a sewing machine.
  • Paper for creating patterns. If you have little experience in sewing, then it is better to first make a pattern on a transparent carbon paper, but if you are an experienced craftswoman. Then you can cut the fabric immediately, marking the desired parameters with a centimeter tape.
  • The creation of a costume begins with taking measurements and creating a pattern. You will need parameters such as product length, chest circumference, waist circumference, hip circumference, sleeve length and width. Please note that the outfit should be a little loose, so you need to throw on all the parameters extra centimeters, with the exception of the length, here start from the height of the girl who will act as the Snow Maiden. Young ladies need a shorter fur coat, ladies of elegant age need a longer one. If you want to make the outfit more interesting, you can cut the sleeves and hem widening down and curly.
    The diagram shows that the main part of the cape has the form of a trapezoid, which slightly expands downwards. The dimensions of the front and back of the pattern are identical, but the template for the front of the suit is cut in the center to create a right and left shelf in the cut, which will connect. The sleeve is cut flared down, with a rounded ledge at the top. Such a cut will provide an even joint with the armhole and a free flare of the finished product. To come to the final result, you need to complement the cut with a stand-up collar, but it is better to make it from fur. Spread the fabric folded in half and mark half sizes from the fold line. This is how the trapezoidal cut is formed, when you connect all the marked points with lines and cut out the part, it will turn out to be evenly expanding to the right and left of the center where the fold was. Tailor and cut out each element, do not forget to make an overlap of 1 cm in the armhole area to form seams, otherwise this place will have to be taken from the base of the part and you will automatically narrow the suit. The product is assembled from the details of the back, shelves and set-in sleeves. First, the side and shoulder seams of the front and back shelves are sewn, then only the sleeves are sewn along the bottom line. After the sleeves are sewn to the main part of the outfit, and all seams, hem and shelves are processed with an overlock. It is necessary to form the seams as evenly as possible, without gathers and tightening in any places. Do not forget to first match the shelves by throwing, try on the coat, "fit" the details and seams if necessary, and only then fix all the components with the final seams. When trying on a suit, do not get carried away by narrowing it, this is a type of cape on clothes, not a tight dress.
    Now we take up the connection of the front shelves with a zipper. The lock is sewn in evenly and neatly, first it is better to baste the zipper, and then go through the sewing seam.
    Do not pull on the edge of the shelf when working on sewing machine, otherwise, assemblies will be created along the edge of the castle.
    The next step in creating the Snow Maiden New Year's costume is fur trim. Strips of fur can be cut wide or narrow as desired. In this case, the direction of the pile must be taken into account. The fur trim is sewn along the hem, collar, sleeves and shelves. Also make a stand on the collar out of white fabric so that in the costume of the Snow Maiden you do not have to wear a scarf during street festive walks.
    The most creative stage of work on a costume is decoration. The outfit can be decorated with appliqués, lace, beads, beads or sequins. If your fabric did not have decorative snowflakes and patterns, then start creating these elements separately and sewing them all over the costume.
    How to sew a hat and mittens for the “Snow Maiden” costume To complete the image of the Granddaughter of Santa Claus, the outfit should be supplemented with a hat and mittens. These details are sewn from the same fabric as the fur coat. For the Snow Maiden's mittens, an additional lining is required. It is easiest to draw a pattern by circling the palm and wrist. In total, you need to cut out 4 elements from the main fabric and 4 from the lining. To make the mittens look neat, first the lining along the bottom of the mittens is sewn to the main parts (the parts are located face to face), then, after turning inside out, 4 parts of one mitten are sewn together. In the area of the wrist of the mittens, it is advisable to sew in an elastic band - then they will not fall off. You can decorate mittens with fur, appliqués and other decor.
    The hat is best sewn from four wedges or from a continuous strip of fabric. In the second case, 4 tucks should be sewn so that the cap tapers up.
    A fur trim is sewn along the bottom of the headdress, and the cap is decorated with a pompom on top. Alternatives The headdress of the Snow Maiden is a kokoshnik or ribbon, decorated with the same decorative elements as the fur coat.
    The simplest kokoshnik can be made from cardboard and decorated with foil, sparkles, tinsel, etc. But a product made of a wire frame, covered with a thin fabric - chiffon, nylon, lace, will turn out to be much more beautiful. You can embroider such a kokoshnik with silver threads, beads, beads. The final detail of the Snow Maiden's New Year's outfit is shoes. Suitable boots, preferably light, can be selected from everyday wardrobe and decorate with suitable decorative elements. If there were no light boots, then take any and decorate them with snowflakes, first tighten the shoes with a synthetic winterizer.
    A wonderful costume of the Snow Maiden is sewn with your own hands. More than one evening was spent on its creation, but the costume can be used from year to year, because the fashion for the carnival image of the Snow Maiden practically does not change.

    A detailed master class will teach you how to sew a children's jacket for a boy with an applique

    A special New Year's Eve atmosphere consists of hundreds of little things! In the early days of winter, we begin to choose presents for relatives and friends, dance to the sound of Christmas melodies, decorate apartments, school classes and offices, we are preparing a wish list and dreaming that next year will be successful. In addition, we will have a series of parties and themed costume events, and parents will have matinees at schools and preschool institutions. So, it's time to think about a festive costume!

    The indispensable characters of the New Year are Santa Claus and his granddaughter, the beautiful Snow Maiden. Neither corporate events, nor matinees in cultural centers, nor performances in schools or kindergartens can do without them. The role of a winter beauty is often played by educators and teachers, mothers and aunts who want to create a real fairy tale for children - and, of course, many girls want to dress up for the holiday in such a carnival costume.

    By far, the easiest option on the eve of the New Year is to buy or rent a suit. However, it is not so easy to find an outfit of the right size in rental studios, and dresses and kokoshniks that are sold in the markets and in thematic stores are not very pleasing with their uniformity. So why not make a Snow Maiden costume with your own hands, making a unique thing that fully meets your aesthetic tastes and ideas?

    It is not necessary to buy a ready-made outfit - especially if you know how to sew!

    And, believe me, there is nothing impossible in tailoring such an outfit! Our tips and detailed patterns will help you create a dress and headpiece in just a couple of free evenings. The main thing is to stock up on brocade or other dense fabric in blue and white, buy some white fur, arm yourself with scissors and a needle, and then let your imagination fly free! Let's look at tailoring an outfit using the example of a themed costume for a matinee.

    How to make a Snow Maiden costume with your own hands?

    List of materials and items needed to make the outfit:

    • a piece of tulle (another light fabric is also suitable - for example, tulle, organza or georgette);
    • a piece of tracing paper for building a pattern (a piece of wallpaper);
    • a piece of brocade (can be replaced with another dense and elegant fabric - for example, taffeta or silk satin);
    • a piece of white faux fur (use silver tinsel as a substitute);
    • a piece of inlay (a narrow strip of fabric for finishing cut edges);
    • beads, rhinestones, sequins, beads, a piece of silver foil;
    • thick cardboard;
    • wire;
    • glue gun or glue;
    • scissors;
    • blue and white threads;
    • pins;
    • buttons;
    • rubber;
    • wire cutters and pliers;
    • chalk or remnant;
    • blade;
    • needle.

    Stage 1: We sew the top dress of the Snow Maiden

    The upper part of the outfit of the winter beauty has a luxurious finish, so here you have to show your imagination.

    • Step 1: Transfer the pattern of the upper part of the dress for the Snow Maiden to a dense fabric - for example, brocade or silk satin. Cut out the patterns, leaving allowances for future seams (about 1 centimeter each).
    • Step 2: Stitch the seams that go over the shoulders and sides of the outfit. Overcast the remaining edges of the fabric.
    • Step 3: Cut narrow strips from a piece of light white fur. It is best to do this from the inside out (so as not to break off the pile), marking the cut line with a pencil. Draw along the line with a sharp blade - this is how the fur is cut best.
    • Step 4: Attach the prepared fur strips to the bottom of the outfit, turn the wrong side and stitch.
    • Step 5: Take the cut pieces for the sleeves, fold in half so that the wrong side is on the outside, stitch and sew to the outfit.
    • Step 6: Cut strips from a piece of fur that will go to the hem of the bottom of the sleeves. Sew and overcast seams.
    • Step 7: Sew a large mother-of-pearl, blue or white button to the neck of the outfit. The buttonhole is made in the form of a slit with swept edges or in the form of a loop from a thin lace or piece of fabric. In the same capacity, you can use a brooch with rhinestones.
    • Step 8. Print out snowflakes with openwork edges on a piece of paper different sizes. Cut out the patterns, transfer to the foil and attach to the top dress. Luchiki and central part snowflakes can be decorated with rhinestones, beads or beads by attaching them with glue or a glue gun.

    Stage 2: We make a cape-pelerine

    One of the simplest elements of the Snow Maiden's outfit is sewn according to this principle:

    • Step 1: Transfer the details of the cape to a piece of tracing paper or wallpaper. Cut out the patterns, attach to the fabric, and then cut out the blanks, leaving a centimeter allowance for the seams.
    • Step 2: Stitch along the edges of the neckline, leaving room for the elastic. Measure a piece of elastic, pull it through the neck, and then hem the top edge with a cut of the inlay. Try to match the color of the trim with the main color of the outfit.
    • Step 3: Cut the buttonholes, overcast the edges of the slits. Sew small silver, blue or mother-of-pearl buttons on the leg to the cape.
    • Step 4: Attach a few foil snowflakes to the cape, decorate with beaded and sequined patterns, beads or rhinestones.

    Stage 3: We sew the bottom dress of the Snow Maiden

    The manufacturing process of the lower dress consists of the following steps:

    • Step 1: Measure the girl's parameters and create a pattern on tracing paper, a piece of old wallpaper. You can simply print the above drawing, after adjusting it to the desired size. Cut out paper patterns.
    • Step 2: Attach the patterns to a piece of tulle or other lightweight fabric, transfer the patterns to the fabric, tracing the borders with chalk or a bar of dry soap. Do not forget to leave centimeter allowances for seams. Cut out the blanks for the dress.
    • Step 3: Fasten the halves of the future outfit, connecting the right sides inward, go through the line along one side. Sew two more pieces in the same way. Next, following this approach, connect the paired parts and sew the sides. The top edge must be tucked up and a line for the drawstring made.
    • Step 4: Measure from the elastic a piece equal to the girth of the girl's chest, and insert it into the drawstring (upper stitched edge).
    • Step 5: Make the straps by cutting out two strips of the same fabric. The dimensions of the strips are 5 by 40 centimeters. Sew the straps by joining the edges, then turn them right side out. Iron them to secure the shape and sew them to the dress.

    Stage 4: Making the headdress

    As a headdress for the Snow Maiden, a hat can act (it is made very simply) or a luxurious kokoshnik in the style of a real winter princess. The process of creating a hat looks like this:

    • Step 1: Transfer the details of the cap from the wedges to tracing paper or wallpaper, cut out the patterns, attach with pins to a dense fabric. Cut out the fabric pieces.
    • Step 2: Fold the wedges of the cap with the wrong side out, sew one and the second pair of wedges, fasten both blanks together, fold so that the front part is inside, and then sew. Turn the hat inside out and iron.
    • Step 3: Cut a 12-13 cm diameter circle from a piece of fur, make a basting and pull off the edge to get a round pompom. Attach the pom-pom to the top of the hat, sew a fur strip along the bottom edge. Decorate the hat with beads and sequins, repeating the pattern on the cape.
    Step-by-step instruction for making the kokoshnik of the Snow Maiden

    Of course, a kokoshnik will look much more interesting than a hat with a pompom. Showing imagination, you can create a real design element - no worse than on the Dolce & Gabbana shows, which so often use this headpiece in their collections. Instructions for making kokoshnik:

    • Step 1: Cut off a piece of wire. Measure the girl's head from the top to the ears. Bend the central part of the wire in a steep arc, bend along the edges with your hands, and then walk with pliers. Secure the folds with stationery binders. Bend the edges of the wire so that you get a "visor" 5-6 centimeters wide. Focus on the girl’s head so that the kokoshnik sits comfortably. Fasten all folds with binders. If possible, the wire can be soldered, but it is easier to fasten all the parts by wrapping electrical tape or adhesive tape - anyway, this will not be visible under the cardboard and decor.
    • Step 2: Measure out the cardboard pieces that will fill the voids in the wire frame. Cut out the cardboard and attach to the frame.
    • Step 3: Cut out a piece of light fabric (you can use a cut with patterns resembling frosty patterns on the windows, or the same fabric as for the Snow Maiden's bottom dress). If the fabric is transparent and the cardboard is visible, glue silver foil on it first. Cover the frame, gluing the joints well. Decorate the kokoshnik with New Year's beads, sequins, rhinestones or mother-of-pearl pearls.
    • Step 4: Measure a piece of lightweight fabric (it should loosely cover the back of the baby's head like a shower cap). Sew a tight elastic band to the bottom of the fabric so that the edges of the fabric are pulled together. Attach the workpiece to the kokoshnik at the top.
    • Step 5: Make a voluminous bow out of lightweight fabric, leaving long edges. Decorate the middle with silver cloth. Attach the bow to the back of the kokoshnik.

    Stage 5: Makeup of the Snow Maiden

    Without the right “winter” makeup, the image of the Snow Maiden will be incomplete

    An important part of the image of the Snow Maiden is thematic makeup. To create it you will need:

    • voluminous white mascara (you can use the base from two-phase mascara);
    • blue and silver pearl shades;
    • transparent or pale pink lip gloss (glossy or with mother-of-pearl particles);
    • pink blush with a light matte texture.

    The process of creating makeup is very simple:

    • Step 1: Apply a small amount of blue eyeshadow to the area around the eyes - as you usually do eyeliner. On the upper eyelid, the strip should be wider.
    • Step 2: Apply silver shadows on the upper eyelid and blend the border between them and the blue foundation.
    • Step 3: Coat your lashes with several coats of white mascara.
    • Step 4: Apply some blush on your cheeks and blend well.
    • Step 5: Apply a drop of gloss to the lips.

    Complete the look with beautiful shoes or boots - and the Snow Maiden's outfit is ready!

    According to tradition, the Snow Maiden costume is a dress (fur coat) made of white, silver or blue material, elegant boots, and a hat or kokoshnik.

    Snow Maidens who came out of childhood, usually choose their outfits for the New Year in stores. For little Snow Maidens, as a rule, caring mothers sew costumes.

    Before you start making the Snow Maiden costume ...

    To begin with, it is worth looking into the closet and on the mezzanine. For baby costume Any dress made of elegant, preferably dense and shiny material is quite suitable for the Snow Maiden.

    Snow Maiden costume for kindergarten

    White tights and a white turtleneck (badlon, long sleeve blouse) are worn under this outfit.

    The basic materials for a costume are in almost every home, every woman. So finding them shouldn't be a problem.

    Costume Materials:

    We sew a sundress for the Snow Maiden:

    1. To create a pattern, you should take a sheet of wallpaper. Trace your daughter's T-shirt on the sheet and draw it in such a way that you get a dress.
    2. Circle the pattern on the material of the old shirt. When tracing the back side of the sundress, make the cutout of the neck itself less deep than on the front side.
    3. Make a seam allowance (at least one centimeter) and, cutting out patterns from the fabric, sew both sides, leaving cutouts for the sleeves.
    4. Along the neck of the sundress, along its hem and cutouts for the sleeves, make an edging from the straps and the hem of the shirt.
    5. Sheathe the bottom of the hem of the sundress with shiny tinsel (fur).
    6. On the front side of the sundress, sew (from the throat to the bottom of the hem) with two even vertical stripes large snowflake sequins or fur.
    7. Instead of buttons, sew large tinsel snowflakes between the stripes.

    Cape for the Snow Maiden:

    • To create a pattern, again, take a sheet of wallpaper. Draw a large circle, and in its center a small circle, which will be the neck. Three-quarters of the resulting circle is the cape pattern. Cut out.
    • Circle the pattern on the fabric (on a shirt, or other existing fabric to match the main one), taking into account the allowances for the seams and cut out again.
    • Finish the edges of the cape with the existing edging and sheathe it with shiny tinsel (fur).
    • Sew tinsel snowflakes on the front of each side of the cape.
    • At the neckline, sew a pair of straps - cape ties.
    • The cape, if desired and possible, can be painted with paint for fabrics. For example, create a light frosty pattern in silver. Or embroider large snowflakes on the fabric with sequins.

    Crown of the Snow Maiden:

    Suit to school

    As you know, nothing is impossible. And sewing a Snow Maiden costume with your own hands is not at all as difficult as it seems. This outfit will consist of a cape, an upper and lower dress - and, of course, a headdress.

    It is preferable to choose a fabric - white or blue brocade, but in its absence, you can stop at other options available in the cabinets and on the mezzanines.

    The trim of the sleeves and hem in this case is white light fur.

    Costume Materials:

    • Tulle (or other lightweight fabric);
    • Tracing paper for patterns (wallpaper);
    • Brocade (or other elegant and dense fabric);
    • White light fur (artificial). In its absence, the fur is replaced by shiny tinsel;
    • Bake (a strip of fabric for finishing);
    • Beads, sequins, beads, foil;
    • Tools (scissors, thread, needle, glue).

    2. Cut out details from thick fabric. You can use the fabric for the top dress.
    3. Fold the cut wedges of the hat wrong side out, sew one side. Then sew the second pair of wedges. Fold the resulting two parts right side inward and sew the sides.
    4. Turn the hat inside out and iron it.
    5. A pompom for a hat can be made from fur by cutting out a circle (D = 12 cm), sweeping and pulling it along the edge and securing it with threads. You can also sew pom-poms on ribbons.
    6. Sew a strip of white fur along the edge of the cap.
    7. The costume is ready.

    Do-it-yourself Snow Maiden costume We present to your attention a small master class on how to sew such a costume. You will need a set of the following materials: Cloth with a shiny shade. What color to choose is up to you. It can be both classic light shades, and cream or lilac tones. Artificial fur. As an alternative - velvet or velor. Pattern paper. Pencil. Ruler. Sewing machine. Now let's proceed directly to the process of creating festive vestments: 1. We take measurements for the pattern and carefully transfer them to paper, using this photo as a guide: 2. Fold the prepared fabric in half from the inside out and outline each detail, making seam allowances of 1.5 -2 cm. 3. When sewing a suit, it is important to follow this order: first we make tucks on the shelves and back, then we grind the shoulder and side seams, and then we grind the sleeves. For a girl or young girl, the fur coat can be made short. 4. We take the blade and cut out small strips from the fleecy fabric. The fabric needs to be cut from the inside out - so the villi will remain intact, and your festive outfit will retain an aesthetic appearance. 5. When making a Snow Maiden costume with your own hands, you can use any decorations - everything that is at hand and that your imagination suggests. The fur coat can be supplemented with overhead applications, rhinestones, sequins or beads. The more glitter, the better! The final bright touch will be tinsel sewn along the edges of the coat and on the sleeves. You can also find an old blue or white dress in the closet, sheathe it with tinsel and thus get a simple, but spectacular option attire. Let's move on to sewing a hat. The headdress of the Snow Maiden must be sewn from the same fabric as the main outfit. To determine the size of the cap, you need to measure the circumference of your head, add three to the measurement, and then divide by six. The result obtained is the width of the wedge, and the Snow Maiden has six of them. The height of the product is measured from the top of the head to the ear. When cutting out a hat, you should definitely make allowances for the seams. As decoration, you can use fur, tinsel, rhinestones, sparkles. If you are afraid to ruin your hair, it is better to give preference to a kokoshnik, which you can also do yourself. Make accessories for New Year's costumes with your own hands is very interesting, because you put a piece of yourself into your creation! To do this, you need elastic wire, cardboard or collar fabric, glue. Two wires are needed for the rim, and one for the crown (top of the kokoshnik). Here is an example: 1. Cut out the middle of the rim from fabric or cardboard and sew the material to the wire. 2. Cut out the part for the top crown and sew it to the wire as well. 3. We take the brocade and glue it on the back of the future headdress. To do this, the part must be cut with an allowance. To simplify the gluing process, use paper clips. 4. Then glue the material on the front of the kokoshnik. Here's what should happen as a result: Do not forget: the Snow Maiden should have light boots on her feet, and to give the image a truly winter look, complement it with warm mittens or a fluffy muff.

    Using this pattern, you can sew a costume of a fabulous Snow Maiden or a regular flared coat. The increase in the pattern is designed specifically for the coat.
