Crochet plaid master class.

Reception of knitting "grandmother's square". The diagram was taken from the Internet.
I knit Grandma's square without an air loop between the columns.
The initial chain consists of 5 air loops.

The plaid is knitted from two types of yarn.
Pekhorka "Children's volumetric" 400m/100g acrylic 100% color in skeins orange - 5, natural - 3.
Pekhorka "Children's novelty" 200m/50g acrylic 100%. Colors in skeins brown-earth - 4, red - 3, dark red - 2, blue - 1.
Total yarn will need 1300 g.

Description of knitting a plaid

We distribute the yarn central part plaid and on the border. The central part took 30% of all yarn and all colors. Although it looks more massive, nevertheless, the main yarn goes to the border.

The central part of the blanket

The central part is made of squares in the free color scheme. To create a country style (rustic) there is no geometric sequence between the central squares. Warm color squares are arranged around separate cool color squares. There is even a square, consisting of many small squares, for its creation I used all the ends that I formed as a result of test samples. This is not necessary if you do not have small ends of the threads.

The central part is made of 24 squares. Each square is connected from 12 rows with a "grandmother's square". Each square is attached to the previous one in the last row. When all the squares are connected, around the perimeter they need to be tied 1 next to the "grandmother's square". Use the color with which you will then tie all the other small squares of the border. Mine is an earthy brown. Dark color I took to highlight the bright and warm colors of the border. And divide the border zones.

Border

The first circle of the border consists of two types of squares. Knit 22 squares consisting of 5 rows of "grandmother's square".

1 view. regular square

2nd view. Square with a flower inside

Pick up a chain of 6 air loops with a thread of natural color, close it in a circle. Tie the resulting ring with 12 single crochets. Close the last loop, do not cut the thread, leave it to work.

With an orange thread in each loop of the bottom row, make 12 lush columns. Knit 3 air loops between the columns. At the end of the row close the loop and cut the thread.
Magnificent column: yarn - elongated loop- nakid - elongated loop - nakid - elongated loop, knit all yarn overs and loops at the same time with an air loop.

The next row is made in natural color. In terms of the number of columns, it corresponds to the 4th row of the "grandmother's square"

We knit the 5th row in the same natural color. We close the last loop, we cut the thread.

We tie each square with a thread of the color that you decide to use for tying (a common row of the central part). Tying the squares, we connect them with each other with single crochets and connect them with the central part.

For each large square on the edge, there are 2 small squares.
When all the small squares are closed in a full circle, we tie a blanket around the perimeter 1 row - brown-earth color, 3 rows - orange, 1 row - natural color, 3 rows of red, 1 row - natural color, 1 row - brown-earth colors. In total, you need to knit 12 rows so that the next circle of small squares fits along the length of the sides. And the squares of the third circle were symmetrical to the squares of the first circle.

We knit the third circle, consisting of 3 types of small squares, corresponding to the type of square with a flower inside. The squares differ in the color of the flower inside. In total, you need to knit 60 small squares, 20 pieces of the same color.

The next circle of strapping is performed around the perimeter. I've run out of earthy brown, but there's still a lot of blue left. The blue color looks deeper and the orange stripe stands out brighter. We tie around the perimeter 1 row - Blue colour, 3 rows - orange color, 1 row - natural color, 1 row - dark red, 1 row - blue. Only 7 rows. I could keep knitting, but I ran out of thread.

The technology of connecting squares and stripes

All squares are connected by single crochets. When we knitted 3 columns of the working row, we knit 1 single crochet into the arch of the square with which we connect. We connect the corners as follows: we knit 1 air loop, then a single crochet under a chain of 3 air loops, 1 air loop, then double crochets in the rows of "grandmother's square".

The photo shows the place of tying the edge at the junction of two small squares. Under each chain of the corner, 3 double crochets are knitted.

The first and last squares on the sides of the strapping are attached with corners to the arch between the posts.

The subsequent squares are attached with corners to the fan itself of 3 columns, behind the central column.
The plaid turned out to be 180x210 cm in size. Easy to maintain and easy to handle.

Knitting a stylish plaid with knitting needles is easy. If you know how to knit a scarf, then you can easily knit a blanket for your cozy home. There are 3 ways to knit a plaid with knitting needles. Who is more to their liking. It is better to decide on this issue, so to speak, on the shore, before setting sail, that is, knitting. To make the journey enjoyable and the result amazing.

1. Plaid knitted with circular needles.

This is a wise choice of tool, as the canvas is large, and keeping it hanging all the time is not an exciting prospect.

1) This blue plaid is knitted with braids.

Blue braided plaid

The motif of the pattern is extremely simple, 6 front loops for the braid and 6 purl loops for the path between the braids, again 6 front loops, etc.

braid pattern

I like to knit braids and plaits, it turns out quickly. As here, knit 4 rows, make a braid weave, knit 4 more rows, do the weave again, you see, you have already knitted 5 centimeters. It is convenient to count, not nervous, the drawing is voluminous, the canvas is soft and beautiful.

blue plaid pattern
Here, there is already something to warm your knees.

This is how it looks after a couple of three days, well, someone like it, of course. Now it’s autumn and the blanket will be ready for the winter cold, but now, on rainy autumn days, you can cover your knees with your half blanket while you work. Cosy.

2) Plaids blue and beige with fringe are also knitted with circular knitting needles

But instead of embossed braids, a pattern is chosen here. This is good because both the inside and the face will have the same rights.

blue plaid
Beige plaid

Description of how to knit a blue or beige fringed plaid:

Pattern for a blue and beige fringed plaid:

Note: It has been suggested in the comments that the description of the fringed plaid has a typo in the weight of the skein. I want to explain why these sizes are indicated.
Here are the options for how to knit a plaid with knitting needles from two different types yarn. You will get such a plaid using both one yarn and another. The cunning alpaca, present in the first version, fluffs the thread. A skein of such yarn is light and voluminous, and feels like stroking a kitten. When knitting, there is a peculiarity. The thread, as it were, is pulled out, it is very plastic, and in the finished product it picks up a little and the canvas becomes more voluminous. And in the second version, there is no yarn for the alpaca blanket, but almost 80% acrylic. Acrylic is a more organized thread, does not stretch and is not as light. Here is the secret.

The knitting magazine wants to show that you need to be creative in knitting, choose what you like, read recommendations for choosing yarn and needle numbers, but check everything on samples.

I took photos of various yarns and patterns. I can't insert a photo in a comment, so I had to do it in the article.

So, for example, for yarn with alpaca from Pekhorka, with a weight and thread length almost like in a magazine (there is more alpaca in the composition, therefore there is more fluffiness), 4mm knitting needles are recommended. But in the reviews I see both 3mm and 4.5mm.

And a photo of yarn and sample with yarn 50% wool and 50% acrylic. It was this yarn 50/50 from Alena, who raised the issue of a typo and asked what kind of knitting needles to knit. The question is in the comments at the bottom of the article.

Only the sample you linked will help you understand how much yarn and what knitting needles you will need to knit a plaid.

3) Stole, which plays the role of a blanket.

I knitted this stole a long time ago, but I never actually used it with a stole, but as a plaid, it took root with us, it’s a pity that I didn’t immediately realize to knit wider. Although the description said that this pattern would look good on a bedspread or plaid.

Even our cats are cramped to huddle on such a narrow product.

Cats on a blanket

Take a closer look at this pattern, it is good because its underside is also attractive, it is mirror-like to the face, only where there is a convexity on the face, concavity on the underside.

I attached the pattern by which I knitted the stole, for a plaid it is not necessary to knit corners with tassels, so you can start knitting right from the 53rd row, and you need to calculate how many loops you need to cast on for your plaid according to the usual pattern. Cast on 15-20 loops, knit with a pattern, close, wash, dry and count in the middle part of the sample how many loops are in a centimeter. I did just that, because I knitted not with cotton, but with semi-woolen yarn.

4) Cozy blanket with a heart.

Striped plaid

Happy choice and inspiration.

Knitting such a thing as a plaid with knitting needles is a painstaking task. Not every craftswoman can cope with it. But it's worth it, because a hand-knitted plaid is distinguished by special energy and beauty.

Such a product will be not only an elegant decoration of the interior, but also a reliable protection from the winter cold - hiding with it, it's so nice to spend time reading your favorite book or drinking a cup of hot tea.

Features of knitting a plaid with knitting needles

A blanket is one of the most pleasant household items. Gatherings in an armchair in the company of a warm, cozy blanket, knitted by hand or by hand loved one- what could be better than this, especially in the cold season. In addition, as the photos of the knitted plaid show, the plaid self made can become a luxurious decorative detail.

It is customary to highlight the following advantages of this hand-knitted product:

 • aesthetics;
 • practicality;
 • functionality;
 • uniqueness;
 • environmental friendliness.

Diagrams and instructions for proper knitting can be found on the Internet. Having decided to knit a blanket yourself, remember an important point - you should not save on yarn. A thing knitted from low-quality threads will not last long.

Knitting options

Today, there are many ways to knit a plaid with knitting needles. This is knitting from squares, knitting with braids and much more. Knitting a plaid from the remnants of threads is quite popular. Which option to choose depends only on your desire.

Many needlewomen prefer knitting from individual motifs. It is considered the most simple and convenient. You can knit in this way in any setting - at home, at work, on the bus, subway. The disadvantage of knitting from motifs is the final assembly of the product. But still this The best way knitting for beginners.

We knit a blanket. Large knit

The fashion trend of this year are blankets and bedspreads made of thick threads. It's not very practical, but it's stylish. It is better to use tops or combed tape as yarn.

The advantages of such a product:

 • the possibility of knitting not only with knitting needles, but also with hands;
 • softness, airiness and lightness;
 • raw wool yarn adds style.

The disadvantages include:

 • During knitting, the tops may tear, because this is not a finished yarn.
 • The threads are very fluffy, can break up into separate fibers and, as a result, get confused. This greatly complicates knitting.
 • It is difficult to take care of a thing made of combed tape: its washing is prohibited.

Tops can be replaced with spun wool threads. It will be easier to knit from them. This blanket keeps its shape much longer. It can be washed. In addition, the spun yarn is almost not torn and does not cough up.

In addition to threads, you will need special thick knitting needles. Detailed description how to knit a plaid with your own hands you can look in specialized magazines and the Internet.

Square bedspread

This option is optimal for those who have just started knitting. Making small squares is much easier than making a huge sheet. In addition, this method is a kind of "insurance" against making mistakes. Wrong related motif it is easier to bandage than to remake a large bedspread.

Another plus is the ability to knit in any situation, because the fragments are small and can easily fit in a bag. In addition to all of the above, for each fragment you can choose your own pattern, pattern, and threads.

In other words, knitting from squares will make all your fantasies come true. This is a good training for various styles of knitting.

Cozy plaid from the remnants of threads

If you are not new to knitting, then you probably have quite a lot of leftover threads. The hand does not rise to get rid of them, but what to do with them is a question. Motivational knitting allows you to put everything on the plaid. The different texture of the yarn used will only emphasize the originality of the product.

For example, a piece of plush surrounded by segments knitted from grass in combination with sectors of wool will look very elegant and stylish. And, if you have threads of the same texture, but in different colors, then you can make a wonderful double-sided plaid.

Whatever knitting master class you choose, the basic workflow is as follows:

 • Calculation of the required number of loops.
 • Choice of primary and secondary pattern.
 • Calculation of the required amount of yarn.
 • Only after that you can start knitting.

Photo instruction on how to knit a plaid with knitting needles

Soft, airy, almost weightless - a man-made plaid of large knitting has captivated fans of knitted creativity! Stylish cozy blankets beckon to wrap yourself in a warm cloudy embrace on a gloomy morning or warm up on a cool evening...

The Americans came up with the idea of the original knitting technique: Modern Wool started with blankets, bedspreads and pillows, but gradually switched to scarves, hats and snoods. The unique way of processing wool allows you to create a feeling of slight negligence, frayed threads. Do you think that Gulliver loops cannot be created from natural wool?! Oh, how wrong you are! Merino wool is perfectly processed, so the loops are even and smooth. Acrylic thread is in no way inferior in quality to natural wool, and the cost varies significantly.

Basic knit blankets

Gorgeous knitted plaids made of merino wool or soft acrylic will complement the Scandinavian style, Provence and country style interiors. Giant loops create the most delicate canvas, which can be classic and strict, playful and openwork, refined and stylish - it all depends on the imagination of the craftswoman.

Hand made is becoming more and more popular every day, it is a mistake to think that knitting is the lot of old women. Not at all! Simple large knitting of local colors - the trend of 2016-2017. Cool blues, juicy reds, deep greens, pure purples, authentic whites and blacks are win-win options! In addition, natural shades of mint, cold chocolate, coffee with milk are in fashion. Muted coral, dusty blue and dirty pink will perfectly fit into any interior.

Large knit blanket in a Scandinavian interior

A do-it-yourself large-knit blanket or blanket will enliven the sofa in the living room and the bed in the bedroom, become a cozy cocoon for those who like to be alone, turn into a children's rug for playing on the floor. Wear-resistant materials allow you to use a knitted blanket in any conditions. Believe me, even the most lively baby, having fallen into the arms of gentle "sheep", will not want to be capricious.

Is it possible to connect this miracle of designer fantasy? It is not difficult to create a large-knit blanket with your own hands, however, the knitting needles are different from the usual ones - even experienced knitters are impressed by the Gulliver sizes! But for talent, nothing is impossible! Knitted creations from merino wool are not at all like "grandmother's" knitting.

Beginner's chunky knit blanket

The methods of "Elastic band" and "Garrier knitting" are familiar to everyone. Even a novice needlewoman can easily create an airy canvas. True, you will have to get used to thick yarn and huge knitting needles ... But the woolen miracle is worth such an effort! The scheme is simple.

 • Knit a row to the end.
 • We remove the first, do not knit.
 • Knit to the end of the row.

The bottom line is that each row is knitted with facial loops, which even inexperienced girls will be able to do. By the way, if you like the pattern that the purl loops create, go for it! Knitting is like modeling clay: once you master the basic techniques, you can create any pattern.

Knitting on circular needles

The knitting needles on the fishing line make the task much easier, since the fishing line allows you to gain the maximum a large number of loops, without fear that they will slip off at the most inopportune moment. We knit a large-knit plaid according to the standard pattern.

 • We collect the required number of loops.
 • We remove the first, do not knit.
 • Knit a row to the end.
 • We turn over the finished row - we get the wrong ones.
 • We remove the first, do not knit.
 • Knit to the end of the row.

Canvas of squares

One of the simplest, but at the same time complex options. It's not about the knitting pattern, but about assembling the elements: each square is knitted separately in any way (front or back loops), and then neatly stitched with threads in the color of the fabric. Show your imagination: sew knitted squares large stitches with threads of contrasting shades. The advantage of this method is that you can combine colors and knitting methods. The result is a plaid that resembles a patchwork style.

Plaids knitted- one of the most comfortable and pleasant things that you can create with your own hands. Schemes and description of knitting a plaid with knitting needles

The choice of models of blankets, as well as patterns, and ways to knit them, is huge. It is also worth paying attention to whether a warm blanket is knitted for adults, or still for children - after all, this is also important criterion selection of yarn and patterns. For the smallest, blankets must be knitted according to certain rules - we will definitely tell you about them. In general, this is a whole art - to knit a good blanket. Let's try to figure it out and consider both the easiest knitting master classes and more intricate options for knitting plaids.

Master class for beginners

Beginning knitters should definitely start by learning the most understandable and simple options knitting blankets. Consider a master class for beginners on knitting a plaid with knitting needles.

This blanket is perfect for newborns or adults. The blanket is pleasant, gentle and soft. And it will not be difficult to knit it with knitting needles because of the knitting method taken as the basis: a simple double-sided pattern of front and back loops, as well as for the edge of the product.

Knitting density: main knitting Pg = 2.25 loops in 1 cm, Pv = 3.2; garter stitch Pg = 2.14 loops in cm, Pv = 4.3 rows in 1 cm.

 • Counting loops

To calculate the number of loops that you need to dial on the knitting needles for knitting a plaid, you need to determine the knitting density of the main and garter stitch. Learn more about how to determine knitting density.

When calculating the loops, we must take into account the desired size of the product and the pattern repeat. As for the size, the standard size of a baby diaper is 80 x 80 cm, we will focus on it. We need the pattern on the plaid to be symmetrical. Therefore, you need to add loops to the whole rapports for the symmetry of the pattern. You also need to take into account the width of the slats along the edge of the blanket. We will knit strips 2.5 cm wide, these are 7 loops (including the edge). This means that we need to knit 80 - 6 = 74 cm with the main knit. One rapport of the main pattern is 18 loops or 8 cm. For symmetry, we need to add half a rapport, i.e. 9 loops or 4 cm. It turns out that for whole rapports accounts for 74 - 4 = 70 cm. Let's determine the number of whole rapports: 70: 8 = 8.75, rounded to the nearest integer, we get 9 rapports. So, number of loops of the main knitting:

9 (the number of whole rapports) x 18 (the number of loops in the rapport) + 9 (the number of loops for the symmetry of the pattern) +7 (the number of loops for one plank) x 2 = 185 loops.

But we know that the knitting density (Pg) of the finishing garter stitch is less than the main one. So, so that the bar on the bottom is not too loose and does not look stretched, we need to recalculate the loops.

Let's specify the final size of the blanket: 185 (number of loops) x 2.25 (Pg of the main knit) = 82 cm.

Now let's define how many stitches to cast on the needles:

82 (piece size) x 2.14 (pg garter stitch) = 175 loops.

 • Main pattern

Double-sided pattern "cage" of front and back loops with a relief texture. Pattern repeat: 18 stitches wide, 24 rows long. To knit a pattern sample, the number of loops is a multiple of 18 plus 2 edge loops on the knitting needles.

Scheme and description:

- classic front loop in the front row, unless otherwise indicated in the description of the pattern. In the purl row, the purl loop is indicated as such.

- classic purl in the front row, unless otherwise indicated in the text. In the purl row, this is the front loop.

1st, 3rd, 9th, 11th row: * 9 facial, 9 purl *;

All purl (even) rows are knit according to the pattern;

5th, 7th row: * 3 facial, 3 purl *;

13th, 15th, 21st, 23rd row: * 9 purl, 9 facial *;

17th, 19th row: * 3 purl, 3 facial *.

The pattern is repeated from the 1st to the 24th row.

 • Progress

We collect 175 loops on the knitting needles in the main way and knit 11 rows of garter stitch. We will arrange the edge a little differently than usual: we will not remove the first loop in the row, but we will knit the front loop behind the back wall.

Fig.1: working thread rolls down and back. Fig. 2: The loop is knitted behind the back wall of the front

We knit the last loop in the row as usual, with the front loop.

In this case, the edge of the edge will stretch more. Considering that the horizontal knit density (Pg) of the main knit is less than the finishing one, this will allow the bar to stretch and compensate for the difference.

If the density of knitting of the main and finishing knitting differs significantly, we recommend knitting the bar in short rows.

In the 11th row we will make straight crochets to add loops. We make additions evenly. We knit 11 loops (including the edge), make a straight yarn over, and then we make yarn over after 18 loops (pattern repeat). In total, 10 crochets will be obtained along the length of the part. In the next row, go to the main pattern. At the beginning and end of the row, we knit 7 loops in garter stitch and then with the main pattern. We knit the yarn over the back wall, without openwork, so that the addition is invisible.

In order for the plaid to turn out to be square in height, we need to knit 11 rapports (264 rows) with the main pattern. In the last row we decrease 10 loops in the same places where we added, knitting two loops together with a slope to the left. We knit the bar and close the row in the classic way.
