Sweatshirt pattern for pregnant women. DIY maternity clothes: ideas for creating a stylish wardrobe

The rapidly growing tummy of a woman during pregnancy dictates the need for frequent updating of her wardrobe. Of course, modern stores offer a wide range of maternity clothes. But it is far from always possible to find in them something that will really be comfortable, made of natural materials or, importantly, affordable for the expectant mother. Hand-sewn maternity clothes will be a great alternative to long shopping trips and impressive expenses for buying things. In this article I will tell you how to sew practical and comfortable clothes for the office, a friendly party and home vacation for expectant mothers on your own.

I happened to be pregnant four times. And my constitution is such that since the third month I have been asked questions about interesting position. And from the same time, you have to change the basic things of the wardrobe and create clothes for the period of pregnancy with your own hands. Yes, and pregnant girlfriends, knowing about my abilities in sewing business, many times they turned to me for help in tailoring.

Sundress for the office - we sew ourselves

I am a working mother, so maternity leave I needed comfortable clothes for the whole day. The knee-length A-line sundress in medium-density jersey became the main thing in my wardrobe, which I was happy to wear to work while pregnant, complete with turtlenecks and blouses or without them.

The scheme of a simple pattern of a sundress for pregnant women:

Patterns are very easy to make yourself. The main measurement is the girth of the chest. In my case, 100 cm. If you have more or less, then where 25 cm is indicated on the pattern diagram, put ¼ of your bust girth. We choose a fabric for this clothing with a width of at least 88 cm (43 cm x 2 + 2 cm for the side seam).

The length of the sundress is 96 cm - this is up to my knee. You choose this size when creating clothes. And it is from this parameter that the consumption of fabric for tailoring will depend. I needed two lengths 96x2 = 197 cm plus 3 cm for the seams - the shoulder and hemming the bottom. In total, it took 2 meters to sew.

As for the armhole, your personal parameters and preferences in clothing are also important here. Deepen it if necessary. You can also make the neckline deeper. Or, if desired, cut off the yoke along the chest line, and make the lower part wider and lay folds, for example, only along the front of the sundress. In a word, this simple pattern will help you in modeling and sewing your trapeze sundress.

The armholes and the neck of my sundress I processed with an oblique trim. And you can - undercut turning, which repeats the shape of the neck and armholes. Another option is to make a sundress lined. This choice of clothing is up to you.

Making your own party dress

Sometimes celebrities give us interesting ideas while searching for the answer to the most popular women's question: "What to wear?". But it should be remembered that clothes for pregnant women should not squeeze the stomach, be narrow and restrict movement.

Natalia Vodianova flaunted in a trapeze dress during pregnancy. You can create something similar with your own hands, using the pattern of my office sundress, choosing the appropriate fabric.

For my pregnant friend, the idea for a party dress came from Angelina Jolie. Looking through the photos Hollywood star, we have found a cute and easy-to-tailor item that is perfect for pregnant fashionistas.

The dress pattern for a girlfriend looks like this:

The key measurement is the girth of the chest or the girth of the abdomen. At independent creation Patterns need to be guided by what is larger. A friend has a bust girth of 104 cm, and a stomach of 125 cm. And a friend wanted the dress to be comfortable during pregnancy. On the pattern, the chest line is indicated by a dotted line, above which is the number 33. What does this mean? Along this line, the maximum width of clothing is 33x4 \u003d 132 cm. Along the belly line - 160 cm. Theoretically finished dress it will fit if the girth of the chest and abdomen is no more. But this is if the clothes are tight. With a belly circumference of 125 cm, the dress for a pregnant friend will come out quite free, as she wanted. If you need to reduce or increase the width, then it is enough to add or subtract the required number of centimeters in the center of the front and back of the pattern.

Dress of a pregnant Angelina with a difference in length. My friend decided not to change. According to our pattern, the length is 100 cm in front and 120 cm in the back.

Fabric consumption depends on the width and length of the garment. If we want to do without seams on the front and back, then we need a width of at least 55 + 55 = 110 cm plus at least 2 cm for the side seams, i.e. 112 cm. The cut is: 100 (front) + 120 (back) + 5 (bottom alignment and hemming) + 5 (neck hem) = 230 cm.

Neck on the drawstring. You can pass through it decorative cord, a bow and tie it on the side or back. Or limit yourself to a thin strip of fabric from which the dress is sewn.

We sew our own tunic for the home

I choose clothes during pregnancy for the home no less carefully than for the office or a party. I think that household items should combine both convenience and beauty. Tunic - perfect clothes for the home, including a great option for the period of pregnancy. Creating it with your own hands is also not difficult.

Pattern for sewing my tunic:

I sewed this model from cotton fabric with a border. Cotton is pleasant to the body, allows the skin to breathe, in a word, it is great for sewing clothes for pregnant women. The pattern shows that the front and back are cut in the same way. The maximum chest circumference for a tunic according to this pattern is 52 x 2 \u003d 104 cm. Do you want looser clothes? – Increase the width in girth chest. Also choose the length of the product to your taste.

The sleeve on the pattern is attached to the front-back, but it should be cut separately. There is a border along the bottom of my tunic and sleeve.

I need a fabric with a width of at least 82 cm - front and back, excluding sleeves, but with an allowance for seams (100 - 22 + 2 + 2). For the front and back of this model, you need 72 (maximum width) x 2 + 2 (for seams) = 146 cm. For sleeves, you need 80 x 2 + 2 = 162 cm. Fabric consumption for my tunic: 146 + 162 = 308 cm.

First, I sewed the sleeves along the cut line (as they are attached in the diagram) to the back and front. And then I stitched the side seams along with the seams of the sleeves. I made drawstrings on the neck and sleeves.

Here is such a tunic for pregnant women, which will not be difficult to make with your own hands, as a result:

The tunic pattern can also be used to sew other maternity clothes, such as dresses.

Choosing a dress for pregnant women is especially difficult. Pregnancy adorns a woman, making her especially tender and beautiful. However, changes in the shape of many women do not allow them to wear the clothes they are used to. And dresses that emphasize the waist are no longer worn. However, don't worry about something so small. Better look - what an elegant, feminine, and most importantly - comfortable dress we suggest you sew! And even if your tummy is already big enough, such a dress will fit perfectly, without restricting movement.

  • then you will need a soft knitted fabric measuring 1.5x1.32 meters. We cut the knitwear to the required length, fold it in half, sew it, hem it from below;
  • we sew the resulting wide pipe along the entire length along the upper unlined line, tighten the threads, forming assemblies;
  • as a result, the volume of the upper part of the skirt should match the volume of the lower part of the T-shirt. It remains only to sew two parts together, and then tie a beautiful belt over the seam.

Ordinary jeans can be turned into maternity pants in a few minutes. A tunic for expectant mothers is also sewn very quickly.

The content of the article:

During pregnancy, a woman should try to look beautiful, then she will have a great mood, which will positively affect the child. Clothes for expectant mothers should be comfortable. If you don't want to buy new clothes while you're expecting a baby, then you can quickly turn old ones into beautiful and comfortable clothes. For this, it is not necessary to spend a lot of time for sewing machine. Many of the options for transforming things below are designed for only 10-40 minutes of work.

How to quickly convert pants into maternity pants?

If the period is still small, then you can use the following method.

Take an ordinary hair tie, pass one side of it through the hole for fastening jeans, tie here in the form of a loop. Now you will put the free end of the elastic on a button or button, thus improving the fastener.

The following maternity pants are very comfortable to wear. For them you will need:
  • trousers;
  • a small piece of knitwear;
  • threads;
  • needle or sewing machine;
  • scissors.
Cut out 2 wedges in the form of a triangle on the trousers from the top of the belt down - right and left, attach them to knitted fabric. Cut out 2 of these pieces, leaving 8mm seam allowances. From above, where the hem on the belt, the allowance should be 1.5 cm.

Sew the cut-out details from the knitwear in place of those cut out on the trousers - on the right and on the left.

Almost the same option can be sewn for pregnant women, or rather, remake old jeans. In this case, cut the wedges not on the side, but on the top of the front pockets, also replace these parts with knitted inserts.

The next option is ideal for the last months of pregnancy. Remove the waistband and zip from the jeans and cut off the top front.

Now attach the jeans to knitted fabric, you need to cut out 2 parts - the back and front yoke. The back should be slightly above the waist, and the front should be semicircular at the bottom. To create this line by attaching the jeans to the jersey, trace the lower semi-circular part along the cut-out fragment. At the top of the coquettes, leave 2 cm for the hem. If you want the jeans to hold tighter at the top, then leave 4 cm at the hem to fold this part of the fabric, stitch and insert a wide, not tight elastic band.

To sew the yoke of the pants, first sew the front and back pieces from the sides. Then turn the jersey piece inside out, fold it with the front of the jeans. Connect, topstitch, iron the seam and your maternity jeans are ready.

Outerwear for expectant mothers from a husband's T-shirt

If your significant other has a larger clothing size than you, then you can give your beloved man an unexpected surprise by turning his T-shirt into a tunic for yourself. This pattern does not require a pattern. All you need is:
  • t-shirt;
  • scissors;
  • crayon;
  • pins;
  • needle and thread;
  • sewing machine.
To create a tunic, you can use any other spacious T-shirt.

Lay it on the table with the front facing you, fold it in half. Deepen the neckline by making the semi-circular neckline here deeper than it was. Step back from the edge 5 cm, cut a tape of this width parallel to it.

In order for maternity tunics to dress well, you need to provide a clasp. In this model, a vertical incision is made on the top of the back, then it is turned and a button and an eyelet are sewn on.

Collect the resulting cutout in front on a thread with a needle, then attach the previously cut U-shaped part, stitch it here.

To make the big sleeve more elegant, you can remake it in any of the two ways presented:
  1. For the first, you need to turn the T-shirt inside out, draw a new line for the sleeve and top of the side, then sew along the basting.
  2. If you use the second method, then rip out the sleeve completely, draw another, smaller size on it. Create a new armhole and side line, stitch.
How the sleeves are transformed in both ways for a tunic for pregnant women, the photo shows.

You can decorate the edges of the sleeves with flounces made from scraps of a T-shirt.

Fold the ribbon that we cut out earlier, fold it in half, wrap it around the neck of the T-shirt, sew it.

Decorate the yoke with buttons, after which the tunic is ready.

Lace tunic for pregnant women

This charming model also does not need a pattern. All you need:
  • lace fabric;
  • ready-made lace collar;
  • braid of the same material and fabric.
Fold the lace fabric in half across so that its front part is slightly lower than the back. Attach the collar in its place, outline its upper part on the fabric, cut it out.

To process the neckline, sew a lace or knitted ribbon that matches in color first to the front of the neckline. Then turn the overcasting to the other side, sew from the inside of the tunic for pregnant women.

To make a belt, simply twist the lace with ribbon, sew on the front, and tie at the back.

Here is such a wonderful new thing you got in just 30 minutes.

Patterns of tunics for pregnant women

Similar tunics for pregnant women can also be sewn from other fabrics, thereby diversifying your wardrobe for the period of the magical waiting time for the baby.

The presented tunic pattern will help you easily sew a new outfit.

To create a new thing, you will need to take a few measurements to find out:
  • neck girth;
  • length from shoulder to waist;
  • waist or hip circumference;
  • product length.
It is better to make the tunic loose so that it can be worn in the third trimester of pregnancy. Adjusts the width of the product elastic band, threaded into the drawstring.

Take one of these:

  • a large sheet of paper;
  • glued newspapers;
  • tracing paper;
  • graph paper.
Put a dot in the upper left corner, marking to the right a value equal to a third of the half-girth of the neck, plus 5 mm. Further, moving along horizontal line, set aside 2-3 cm for turning the neck. Then from the resulting point another 20 cm for the shoulder and sleeve.

From the shoulder down, lay down the length to the waist, draw a horizontal line. In this place the drawstring for the elastic will be located.

If you have a long pregnancy, then the width of the future product is determined by the girth of the abdomen, do not forget to add for an allowance for a loose fit. If the period is short, when a tunic pattern is drawn, the width of the product is determined by the girth of the hips.

The backrest pattern is created on the same basis, but make the cutout for it small or do not do it at all. Now fold the fabric in half, pin the front pattern on it, and below the back. Outline, marking the waist line, cut out with seam allowances on the side of 8 mm, and at the bottom of 1.5 cm.

Sew front and back at the shoulder and side seams, hemming the bottom. If you do not know what this word means - hem it.

Cut out the neckline from the fabric according to the markings on the pattern, sew it in place. Stitch the drawstring from the inside, thread an elastic band into it, sew that one. You have another tunic.

Other patterns for pregnant women

To create such a new thing, you will need a fabric 1 meter 40 cm wide. First, draw a pattern. The photo shows that the length from one sleeve to the other is 1 meter 20 cm. The width of the sleeve folded in half is 20 cm. Focusing on the hint, redraw the pattern on paper, then on fabric. Cut out with seam allowances.

Fold the front and back piece right sides together, sew at the shoulders and then along the sides and underarms. Process the neck line by sewing a bias tape, knitted tape or a pre-cut piping here.

The low belt has a height of 17 and a width of 92 cm. Open it, sew the side parts together, sew to the gathered bottom of the maternity tunic.

In the next model, you can walk not only while waiting for the child, but also at other times, for example, on a beach holiday.

The back and front consist of the same rectangles. But a V-shaped cutout is made on the neck of the shelf. It must be edged, the back and front part are sewn on the shoulders and sides, the product is hemmed, after which the tunic, sewn by one's own hands, is ready.

If you want to keep your hands warm in such clothes, then pay attention to the following model.

It is also easy to sew for pregnant women or just for fashion-conscious women. A canvas 120 wide, 65 cm long is cut out. If you do not want to make extra seams, then fold the fabric across in half, mark down 65, and 120 cm to the side, cut it out. Expand the canvas. As you can see, your tunic turned out to be one-piece. It will only have two seams that separate the arms from the sides. Sew according to the specified basting, cut and decorate the neck.
